Loyalty is only going to get you so far on the world-class level. At this stage, he has to have the best to get to where he needs to be. Pavlik is a good fighter who just needs a change.
He needs Santiago!!! Seriously, he needs someone else(not named Santiago). He seems like a loyal guy though so I don't know if it happens.
Pavlik isnt a puncher of the level of a Hearns/Lewis. And those two guys were far more athletically gifted then slow ass Pavlik.
i agree...he got love for the team that got him there.... but so did mosley.... he needs to disband and still learn things before he becomes the old dog that can't they only teach him to be tough as nails... after the hopkins fight...there should have never been anyone getting the chance to circle around and pick at him throw the jab? he should have kept the left out to move forward with it and drop bombs using it to target.... martinez was smart to hug when faced with pav in the corner or against the ropes... just a better gameplan against no game plan.
Truth is he can still have Lowe in the corner as second, loyalty is an admirable trait but this is business man. In the words of Michael Corleone, it business, not personal, just business.
This thread is going exactly as I predicted. Steward does have a thing for tall one-two punchers who have been written off, though; Manny did look crushed at the end, so who knows? All signs point to "no," however. They'd be an interesting team, though. Make it happen. Oh, and early on, I noted the Pavlik actually initiated some of the clinches. Not the later ones; I was happy that he wasn't smothering his power on the inside this time around.
Pavlik showed he has skills - he adapted and out-boxed Martinez in the mid-rounds, but that cut was a life-taker. Lowe's advice was sound - hook then throw a right, or jab to the body or chest and throw a right. I don't think there was anything wrong with that. Kelly's confidence seem shot more than anything else.
Yes, why not? But the language barrier could be too much. Also, Steward knows Kelly very well due to the Taylor fight, he could correct/teach things right away, much like with Cotto. I said it several times: Kelly has some potential the current coach never was able to bring out, so it's not the end of the road.
I think Steward would be a good choice for Pavlik as well. Emmanuel works well with tall rangy fighters.
