Told you man, you clearly haven't seen enough of Abraham when you think he will just do one thing. Abraham can fight defensively and can slug, that's two things, he can also resort to counter punching and only counter punching, that's 3. You got to watch some more of his fights otherwise it's pointless discussing with you.
That's your opinion and prediction then and I can't force you to change it. Hopefully the fight itself will. :good
Re-Post. I like everything about Abraham besides his class-lacking brother, Alexander Abraham. Nevertheless, Miranda was beating Abraham until Abraham hurt him at the end of the 3rd. Abraham has a major flaw, which can be exposed: he has a poor workrate when he fights good opponents. I have seen Abraham fight c-level European fighters and dominate them, but when he steps his game up to b-level fighters he takes a lot of time off during rounds. Pavlik will fight Emmanual Stewart style - using the jab and keeping Abraham at bay. Abraham won't want to risk fighting Pavlik straight up because he's seen what happens when you do that. Pavlik will add up enough rounds to decision Abraham. Then he'll step out of the ring and use his overhand right to smack Alexander Abraham back to Yerevan. Also, Pavlik has a big-time chin. He took Taylor's best shots and unlike Abraham's supurb defense, which absorbed a lot of Miranda's punches, Pavlik walked through Miranda's big shots. Abraham won't be able to play possum with Pavlik. Pavlik has longer arms and a better jab. Lastly, in terms of height and reach, Abraham is custom-made for Pavlik. He is 5'9/5'10 and lacks a long reach. Pavlik has more trouble with taller guys with long reaches.
Abraham's tactic for Miranda in the rematch was obvious, start slow, let Miranda do his thing with Abraham blocking it, even his trainer in the corner was telling him what to do and went there to apply 100% all the way to when he told him to just land some bombs and finish this guy. That's also what I'm worried about here, Pavlik's activity and how long will it last, though countering Pavlik shouldn't be impossible for Abraham and Abraham can hit really hard if not as hard as Pavlik. Both guys also have proven they have great chins though Abraham was never seriously hurt before and Pavlik was hurt numerous times in his last few fights. Taylor hurt him and dropped him in the first fight, Miranda stunned him, Taylor hurt him in the rematch but didn't follow him in fear of getting tired again. I still can't see this being easy for Pavlik no matter how people think as it won't be easy for Abraham as well.
:good However, I think if Pavlik gets sloppy or arrogant and goes right at Abraham with a brawler's mentality, he might get knocked out.
Fair enough. I do NOT think this will be easy for Pavlik. Abraham can box. No doubt. I just think Pavlik is the favorite. Miranda isn't half the boxer Pavlik is. Taylor hurt Pavlik. Knocked his ass to the mat, but by the end of the round Pavlik was totally level-headed. That is a big-time chin. We know his jaw was broken by Miranda, but does Abraham have the same type of chin? Can you name fights where it has been tested? I'm not being rhetorical, but I can't think of any. AA will have to back-peddle against Pavlik because if they stand and throw, like any fighter against Pavlik, you risk getting KTFO. His only chance is to go into his Winkieesque turtle shell crouch (like he did against Miranda) and hope Pavlik gets sloppy. Additionally, it will be hard for AA to succeed with that strategy because Pavlik is so tall and long that it will be challenging for the smaller, less-long AA to get under KP's jab. Pavlik's workrate won't slow down. He pretty much stayed at the same pace the whole second fight with Taylor. He throws A LOT of punches for a middleweight. My only question is for the British boxing fans: will you finally give KP respect if he beats AA? In the US, we already give AA his daps. Dude has skills no denying it. I'm not sure there are any other middleweights besides KP that would beat him. I don't think AA is the fighter to beat Pavlik. I think someone like Calzaghe who is fast and moves well will pose problems for Pavlik. That kind of boxer won't knock out Pavlik, but he may be able to take the decision win.
Yes I can name fights it was tested, check out the Eastman fight, Eastman had Miranda out on his feet yet landed vicious blows on Abraham and didn't even stun him, Miranda broke his jaw and Abraham didn't even go down from that punch, he also landed punches on him with a broken jaw and Abraham didn't show any sign of going down. Watch the Ikeke fight as well, Ikeke landed a really solid shot which stunned Abraham for a split second but still he came back with punches of his own. Still the Pavlik fight should be the best test yet as we both agree on. About Pavlik in the Taylor rematch, he definitely kept his punches up though this was his first 12 rounder and he DID get tired late, I really can't believe the people that deny that, he had Taylor seriously hurt late with a body shot and couldn't follow up because he was tired as Taylor was, the way he was breathing in the corner explains it well, which is why I'm giving Abraham a huge advantage if this goes to the 10th/11th and 12th. About the British fans, I'm not British so I'll skip there but about a fight with Calzaghe we pretty much agree there, Calzaghe has the best chance to stop Pavlik without any doubts.
Considering Pavlik uses his jab effectively and keeps it there, it could cause a lot of problems for Abraham and force him to open up more than he would plan to. Though I'm still pretty confident Abraham will have Pavlik's fighting style studied well enough to know how to counter that, Pavlik is not great defensively and will eventually open up his self sooner or later anyway. Still, big advantage to Pavlik when it comes to that. *EDIT Ikeke had the height and reach advantage as well and he was highly regarded going in against Abraham. Of course Ikeke is nothing compared to Pavlik in terms of style and everything else but still a good fight I would recommend.
yeah right, Pavlik didnt box in the rematch vs Taylor? :nut at each thread, you are there to downgrade pavlik
Fair enough. What do you think are AA's biggest advantages over Pavlik? Not Pavlik's flaws, but AA's advantages.
