Everyone and their sister wants to talk about that so called "knockdown." Even Bronco said there wasn't much to it. Pavlik was moving away from a left hand, and McKart caught him flush on the shoulder. Kelly was out of position and off balance. His gloves brushed the canvass, and the ref correctly ruled it a knockdown. Those are the historical facts! What Kelly's detractors rarely want to give him any credit for is the fact that in 54 pro fights including 3 fights with Winky, 1 WBO title, 1 IBA Title, and 1 NABF title, no one had ever stopped McKart inside the distance. Against Pavlik Bronco made one mistake, and got knocked the **** out. Mckart was so wary of the right hand over the top he was holding his left to high and not keeping his elbow close enough to his ribs. Pavlik's corner pointed this out, and told Kelly to shoot a lead right to the body. Kelly did as he was told, and McKart went down! That was the beginning of the end. McKart never recovered from that shot. Who besides Kelly Pavlik EVER put Bronco McKart down with a single body punch? Boo
I like Pavlik's simple style, nothing fancing, but gets the jobs done. Crazy how some good simple fundamentals can take you a long way.
