Pavlik responds to Calzaghe's claims!

    Just read on another site that Pavlik completely denied what Joe said about him offering a fight with Pavlik after he beat Lacy. Pavlik said that Joe never offered anything and only showed some interest in fighting Pavlik after he beat Jermain Taylor with no true or official phone call from Calzaghe's team to negotiate a possible fight.

    Pavlik also bashed on Joe Calzaghe's father, claiming he's only bitter because Pavlik knocked out Lockett. As he's set to fight Hopkins next he said that this is the fight he's focusing on right now with all the Calzaghe stuff being ignored till after the Hopkins fight. He WANTS to fight Calzaghe but there are signs of serious interest from the Calzaghe team so he's keeping his eyes on his next opponent for now. Pavlik also said that if Calzaghe loses to Jones then a fight won't be made. Pavlik is also predicting a win for Jones over Calzaghe.

    Of course it doesn't and I never believed Calzaghe's claims anyway. All he does is say he has offered to fight anyone yet his resume proves him otherwise. Why is he all of a sudden good enough to travel for the major fights he DECLINED back when his opponents were in their primes?, because he knew what the result will be. Only now that they're BEYOND shot he's making his move to pad his record real quick as he mostly did. His excuse was not leaving Wales, why the HELL would Hopkins or Jones move to Wales?, it's not like they need Joe he's the one who was an unknown that needed them and when you need someone you go AFTER him. He's only doing it now because those guys are beyond shot. If Lacy and Kessler didn't travel to fight him he would remain an unknown till this day fighting cans in Wales.

    It's funny because the truth actually makes Joe look better than Calzaghe's own story because showing mild interest after Kelly beating Jermain is still better than "officially" calling him out after Zuniga.

    It's all semantics anyways, though. If both guys win, they're going to fight.

    Remember, animosity sells fights. So does "coming out of retirement", which is why you see Joe playing that card. Both guys wouldn't waste their time building it by trading barbs with each other if the intentions were truly for Kelly to fight Arthur and for Joe to retire.

    At least that's my take on it. I'd be surprised if Pavlik-Calzaghe didn't happen - although Roy and Bernard would love nothing more to play spoiler. Hopefully neither man is looking too far ahead.

    Although I'd be genuinely disappointed, I'll still be a Pavlik fan if it doesn't because it won't be on him if things do fall through. :good
