He was the middle weight champ so he was more dedicated then most people. And the reason he retired is because he does not like boxing anymore.
My impression is it came down to family. He has kids 6 and 4. That is a tough age to be away from them weeks at a time IF you have a choice. His wife also wanted him to quit while healthy.
Agreed. There was very little motivation to stick around after the Ward fight fell through because he's financially comfortable and training camps are hell for him. That said, I suspect that Jr. or Froch could lure him out of retirement for the right money.
Yeah, I heard him metion in other interviews that he wants to be able to talk and understand his kids when he gets older. Quite a few times I heard him say he was getting tired of getting punched. The way he explained it is he has money so why should he risk his health.
Pretty much. Can you blame him? It's hard to keep that fire burning when you're financially comfortable and getting slandered every 5 minutes.
I don't blame Pavlik one bit. I would not do it either. Pavlik want's to open up a gym across from Jack Loews. Something like that makes more sense if you already are rich.
I'm about to start a thread with something I found on line. I think he buried the hatchet with Jack. :good
I will check out your thread. It was a few months ago where he said he wanted to put Jack out of business, guess they made up. I read an interview with Jack Loew a couple weeks ago. And he said they don't make them like Kelly anymore, said he was a little bad ass.
