If they lowered the price to $29.95 they would probably get twice the buys. I mean who wouldnt want to see a card with Pavlik, Cotto, Clottey, Cintron (assuming this gets signed), Peterson if they didnt have to give up an arm and a leg?

For arguments sake (using theoretical numbers for easier math) lets assume PPV buys of 300,000 @ $45. That would gross $13.5mm. The break even point at $30 would be 450,000 buys or in increase of 150,000 buys.
Based on many opinions on this site; people would be willing to spend $29.95 for this card (if Clottey/Cintron gets signed), but would not go much higher in price.

Lowering the price would lead to increased buys, greater fan support (which apparently they dont give a **** about) and the potential for more money not only now, but further down the road as well.

Not a bad argument. Problem is, neither of us know if it is true. NOBODY really does. Arum and whoever he trusts with numbers, I'm sure sit down with the numbers and arrive at a decision. It is the promoter that is on the hook if this thing loses money. He probably buys Mallox by the case. That is the side we fans never think about. It is different when HBO says, "Here is the money you have to work with".

A 'boss' once told me that he used to sell motors. They were were the OEM and sold them for 10X what the guy down the street sold them. He asked his 'boss' why don't you let me sell them for what the guy down the street sells them for. The reply? "OK, if you guarantee me you can sell 10X more?"

I think that argument works if ODH were fighting, but there isnt any other fighter out there that has proven that they can consistently deliver high volume at that cost. I guess we shall see when the numbers come in. I'm just thankful for YouTube. ;)

HBO chased Arum to PPV on this because they felt it wasn't competitive enough? Thank you ABC's for Lockett and Rubio?

Bob Arum has figured it out. Last year, Arum declared, “If I was running HBO, I’d get out of the pay-per-view business. Maybe I’d do two huge per-per-view shows a year. Other than that, I wouldn’t touch it. I wouldn’t produce; I wouldn’t distribute; I wouldn’t have Jim Lampley at ringside for pay-per-view fights. Right now, it’s idiotic.”

This card is very good with all the rumored participants included. Last card that was this good had:

    Cotto - Mosley
    Margarito - Johnson
    Casamayor - Santa Cruz
    Victor Ortiz - Maussa

One thing I'm not clear on. How many bouts will be in Youngstown? I've heard they will have screens for the Cotto fight. Will a lot of the card be like that? Early card with locals then switch to the other site? Not that it matters if I get tickets, I'm going. :deal

I'm in the same boat. may be in touch with ya' soon. Would be cool to meet some of the ESB "dogs" at the place. Hermit has agreed to show me some of the ropes in Youngstown too.

    What seats did you get??

A few $100 for me and my girl. The Chevy Centre is pretty compact so there isnt a bad seat in the house.
