Guys remember in an interview where Pavlik was talking of moving up to heavyweight :rofl:patsch:patsch

He is the white version of Jeff Lacy and will get schooled by Martinez/Bute :hi:

Well, I'll counter with other facts that are not tainted by unbelievably blind bias or haterade. I don't dislike Kelly and really the excuse making is something that plagues the sport I think simply because it's a sport where one loss puts a lot on the line: legacy, future money, and depending on where you are in your career...your career.

Lets look at some quotes(and I'll leave out the dumb Midwestern quote or his ridiculously incorrect commentary on Mayweather, Roy Jones Jr, Cotto, De La Hoya, and Pacquiao).

On critics saying he'll have trouble with Martinez' awkward style and movement.

"I love that. I really love that. There are a couple things there that don't really bother me but are kind of funny. First of all I beat Jermain Taylor twice....then the kid(Taylor) came up and beat Hopkins twice. He outpointed him. He is faster than Hopkins and was better than Hopkins."

My take...styles make fights. Hopkins has had trouble with faster fighters (Jones, Taylor, Calzaghe). Kelly to this point has not beaten an elite fighter who is a mover. Taylor was a very good win and that can't and shouldn't be taken from him, but truth of the matter is Taylor has always had very fast hands who boxes in straight lines. So it's a fair thought to think that Pavlik has troubles with guys who like to move, he can at least partially correct the critics by beating up on Martinez.

Still the question about Martinez; Pavlik talking about Hopkins

"I fought Bernard Hopkins and there are medical records that prove that I wasn't me on the night of the fight."

My take: Who cares. I think he has learned though, his hand was legitimately a problem against a fighter like Williams and was smart to pull out if his hand was giving him problems. But if he decided to stay in and fight Hopkins while sick you forfeit the right to use a sick excuse. He knew he was going in sick. He wouldn't be the first to go in a fight sick or severely injured.

On the possibility of taking on Winky Wright

"...it's a no-win situation for me. Why would I fight a guy who doesn't have a title? If I beat the **** out of him they say I beat a 40 year old man...Unfortunately in my situations I have to fight killers and monsters to get the recognition."

My take: Yes, killers and monsters. Sergio Martinez is a killer and a monster that has been featured in several horror movies. Seriously, that's a good fight to take and a good fight for the sport. Why fight a guy who doesn't have a title? For his name. Who gives a **** what people say, Kelly later admits in the interview there are good fighters but no good names at 160 for him to take. I can't see Arum ever arranging a fight for Pav to take on Gevor, for one Gevor has absolutely no name stateside and working internationally between promoters has often been difficult. But why whine about it before it even happens?

What he has planned for 2010; emphasis on the 2009 Paul Williams press conference.

"There were a lot of things that were said that I was ducking him and everything else but if you go to the Ring Magazine and look at the picture of the press conference we had on September 29 you can see my hand and see it was still swollen through the knuckles"

My take: His hand did look bad, but he's contradicting himself. In an interview on site at the press conference Kelly Pavlik said "The hands looking good; everything's fine." I don't really put this on Kelly, I think it was bad management on his teams part.

    around 2:38 or so.

I think boxing fans, even though most of their worlds don't revolve around Pavlik, want to see him take on good fights like Martinez and whatever the end result is handle it a little better and not cover losses with excuses. He'll be fine in 2010.

A 55 year old Hopkins would school a prime Pavlik. Just too ring smart and totally has his number.

Why call out a guy when his promoter made a ridiculous demand for a $2 million dollar guarantee? Ya know who got that kiind of money fighting Pavlik? Taylor, Hopkins, and no one else. At that time AA was not worth anything close to $2 million, and you can bet your ass Sauerland knew that. Same way he knew to keep Zuniga and Wright away from AA.

That's actually a pretty good post. However, it is not the kind of crap I was referring to. Look all over ESB, and all over the internet! Pavlik lost to HOPKINS. It ain't like he lost to Brian Vera! Now the whole boxing world acts like any old scrub can climb in the ring with Pavlik and just do what BHop did. I'd bet my last dollar that this is why that fight is stuck in KP's craw. Rarely have I seen a fighter catch as much crap as Pavlik has over the past year.

Just wanted to say that I agree with this, and that's what made me a Taylor fan, and what's now making me sour on Pavlik a bit.

The good news for Pav is, if you shut up, fight all comers, and win, people will forget about anything else.

Pavlik has become one of the biggest crybabies in the sport. His title reign has been a sad joke(Lockett, Rubio, Espino compared to Taylor's: Hopkins, Pavlik, Ouma, Spinks, and Wright) and his only claim to fame are wins over a damaged Jermain Taylor(two fights with Hopkins never leaves the opponent in good shape, win lose or draw, ask Segundo Mercado). Taylor took his lumps like a grown man, Pavlik took them like a little *****.
