All of this recent negativity surrounding Pavlik regarding his comments on the tourney is valid but in defense of him with this recent article he sounds a little pissed that he wasnt invited and is waiting on AA after the tourney. He doesnt sound like hes running like most of you are implying he is only stating that he will wait his turn since hes not in the tourney. I agree, all of the showtime bashing and money running was bad P-R on his part and he should have just shut up but to say hes running scared is bull.

    Vindicator sports staff
Kelly Pavlik said he’s willing to wait his turn to fight Arthur Abraham, but he’s not willing to fight Felix Sturm for $1 million.
Pavlik, the WBC and WBO middleweight champion, had been slated to fight Sturm, the WBA champion, on Oct. 3. But talks hit a snag when HBO offered just $2 million for the bout, a significantly lower amount than the two fighters had been seeking.
“If we’ve got to split that, I wasn’t going to take a fight for that,” said Pavlik, who signed copies of his new book at Thursday’s Scrappers game. “He’s got the WBA world title. I’ve got two titles.
“Somebody better throw some more money out there.”
Sturm, a German, has emerged as the leading candidate for Pavlik’s next bout due in no small part to Abraham’s involvement in Showtime’s upcoming super middleweight tournament. Pavlik said he was not asked to be involved but would have been interested.
“Yeah, but I’m going to take care of business at 160 [pounds] first,” he said. “In the future, I’d like to fight the winner.
“If he [Abraham] does take part and he ends up winning it, I’ll fight him when I go up [in weight].”

Pretty much what most logical people figured. He wasn't invited and got upset about it. I was more worried about bashing Showtime and trying to discredit something very good for boxing.

As per the Sturm money issues, I'm beginning to get the vibe that we won't be seeing Pavlik in the fall.

Sounds like he's talking money again which is not the kind of thing you want too hear from a fighter.

    ^^^^
And he's been saying this kind of **** since he won the title and hasn't done much of anything at middelweight since then. Enough talk Kelly, shut the **** up and fight. We don't want words right now, we want action...and against a legit middleweight opponent for once.

Yeah, but it's still silly for him to NOW announce he's waiting on AA after the tourney. That's another year, and that's IF AA chooses to fight him then. He may be like "**** you Pavlik, I'm fighting other folks now to get the SMW belts".

More than two years. IF Abraham makes it to the final, it will be June '11, so it will be more likely late fall '11 if it's right the next fight. If Abraham takes a good amount of punches in that tournament while prevailing, I don't think he will fight on for too long, if he doesn't even retire right after it.

Hahaha, this is f*cking priceless! Only in Bob Arum's world!

Now that Abraham moved up, Pavlik is finally interested in him? :patsch Remember them talking about Sturm and Froch not too long ago? I bet they already knew HBO won't offer enough for Sturm AND when they came up with Froch's name the tournament was already set. Be careful what you ask for because you might get it - so better wait until they sign a contract and ask when they surely can't call your bluff. :D And in the meantime keep trashing the tournament where 6 fighters are ACTUALLY FIGHTING EACH OTHER, you'll surely look like a real warrior. :deal

This is great. Don't participate in the tourney, wait for them to beat each other up and fight the winner instead of "risking your career for peanuts".

Well, Kelly, it doesn't work this way. The tournament winner might be too big to fight a guy who faces pathetic or small competition on small time PPV.

Come on. He also said that the 6 boxers were going to kill their respective career with this tournament, and for not enough money.

Pavlik needs to make a meaningful fight - instead of worrying about what others are doing.

Pavlik has screwed his career up, no one cares about him versus a bum of the month when good fights are out there. There still are good fights at 160 like Paul Williams, Vernon Forrest that could be interesting at the moment I just think 'wake me when he fights someone decent' which could be years. Maybe he's scared of losing again or just has lost all interest of HBO after getting owned by Hopkins

Really he needs to make a fight with Williams or shut up, I don't care about Giftboy Sturm or that Margarito leftover he's fighting next

How can he claim to take care of business at 160 and then say the money isn't enough to fight Sturm!!! I'm confused as to who he's dealing with!?!?! Duddy?? Mora?? Chavez Jnr???

Pavlik needs to learn that he got his arsed badly handed to him and lost a lot of his appeal in the Hops fight. He should take the fight with Sturm for the smaller fee to get the bigger fees in the future. I used to love this guy as I seriously thought he was the sort of person who'd fight anyone....but I'm past caring about him now!!!

dont like to slate fighters especially a world champion like kelly pavlik but ive got to agree with you on these points my man. if the moneys not on the table, what the **** does he think hes gona do? not fight at all and get nothing? id say the people of ohio who werent in the best economic situation BEFORE this recession never mind now would balk at a 'working class blue collar guy' turning down 1 mill or whatever it is for a prizefight

    thats also true.

now hes gotta make a move in the middleweights and get his aura back. fighting and beating winky wright, paul williams, sturm and someone left field but will raise his profile around the world like matt macklin, barker, duddy or anthony mundine etc

Like someone once said, the power a fighter has over who he gets to fight is overrated.
Pavlik would fight whoever was put in front of him, but Arum is lurking around, Mogens Palle style, trying to see how he could make the most money while his fighter is sitting on his arse getting frustrated. Forest, Williams and Sturm would all be great fights.
Arum, get it done or get lost.
