Looks like Pavlik decided to stay at 160lbs according to yourmama.com (can't post the site's name =P).

He'll be fighting Chavez Jr. in December.

dude is a coward... he would rather stay at 160 and fight trash until the super 6 breaks out rather then step up and fight a real beast like bute

They just don't like their chances of being as successful above 160lbs. There's no other legit explanation.

wouldnt you? his career is at stake he cant afford to lose 2 fights in a row, i doubt pav is scared but as a career move he knows better then that.

maybe when and if he can do anything at 160 again

Hagler's best wins are Hearns and Duran, two fighters from below 154. A middleweight will often face fighters coming up in weight, what's the problem with that. Pavlik should not be facing an opponent too difficult right after a loss to a fighter he was favored to beat.

I think I understand what Pavlik is trying to do, and it revolves around two main points.

    1. The last time a linear middleweight champ regained the title it was Nino Benvenuti in 1968. I think Pavlik would like to try to be the next guy to do that.

    2. 168 is pretty well tied up for God knows how long, but 160 is on it's way to becoming a very hot division.

Whether or not this is a good idea remains to be seen, but it's pretty easy to see what's behind the logic.
