I'm all for Pavlik staying at 160 if its done right and he is able to last there. Id rather not see the fight rumored, JCC jr, if KP is planning on moving up anyway. I can't envision Jr. beating Pavlik, but what the hell do I know.
You obviously haven't read the article. This isn't a done deal and it will hinge on the nutritionist, yet to be determined, saying it is safe for him to go back to 160. The layoff/staph infection/weight lifting took him to a place he had never been weight wise. They followed the 'old schedule' and thought they were OK until the final days and realized what was left was muscle and it wasn't coming off on the old schedule. There is nothing new here and making his way back to 160 doesn't mean he didn't have weight problems for the Martinez fight.
Yea its not like Bute is out there basically looking for a big name to fight.... But you know HBO is not going to pay to see Pavlik-Bute so its smart for Pavlik to fight an unknown bum in Jr. Here is to Jr. Knocking his ass out!!!
That's not a reason why Pavlik couldn't take an 'easier' fight at 168 now, then be positioned to fight Bute, or the two fighters eliminated from the Super Six early next year?
Again, this is not a done deal. Not directed at you, but why is it the people that say Pavlik won't do anything at 168 are the ones always calling for him to move up? :think I think everyone realizes that 160 is the division he should stay in if he can make the weight safely.
Pavlik not being invited makes it stupid, doesn't it? Only Kelly said he never wanted to join and ruin his career for peanuts, not THAT'S stupid. But Bute is always there and HBO is interested. Why isn't that fight happening?
So if Pavlik is staying at 160, why isn't he exercising the rematch clause with Martinez? Did he waive his right to it, coz he was supposedly going up in weight, so now that fight is gone?
Because that's ESB standard. See also: Khan should fight Maidana, Maidana will shatter that glass jaw. Etc, etc.
Even if he fought and beat Bute he would be stuck, just like Bute is now, looking for opponents. And isn't Bute now lined up to do his mandatory defense? You think Willy Saurland isn't starting to think Kalle's idea was a bit stupid in retrospect? Taking Abraham to fight in front of a few thousand people only to disgrace himself and only got the Show Time money for his efforts? Doing whatever it took to get Kessler on board only to find out he isn't top level? How is this working out for Willy anyhow? I don't think this is how he envisioned it going.
