That rematch would have had to have happened immediately. Kelly isn't even committed to staying at 160 at this point. It looks like he will, but that isn't final yet.

I have no problem with pavlik staying at 160 as long as he fights martinez-williams and sturm. Those are really the only 3 fights i want to see him fight. If JC chavez Jr wants to get KTFO then so be it.

pavliks career is a goddamn comic book fairy tale...

they faked him struggling on his weight to do damage control on the sm ass whipping
now taht people have somewhat forgot about it they are putting him back at 160 against a 154 fighter

someone needs to get rid of this fluke forever

If he stays at 160, I would expect him to take on Martinez. Williams? He should stay at 147. He has publicly stated he will never fight Kelly anyhow. He feels so 'wronged' yet Kelly's hand problem got him his signature fight with Martinez. Funny isn't it? Williams wanted 50/50 when Kelly was champ and Pdub STILL doesn't put asses in seats. Not sure why, but that's the way it is.

I think fans nowadays are obsessed with weight jumping. If your not a multi weight champ nobody cares. When really people should only go up in weight is they are struggling at their current or for money fights. There isnt anything currently that Pavlik can get at 68 which he cant get at 60.

I dont blame KP for staying at middle.

Not true. Kelly is looking at fighting in December.
The 2 losers from the Super Six will be available by then along with Bute.

So that is 3 pretty good options he would have at 168 lbs.
Not to mention that other title holder at 168. I forget his name but im sure he would jump at the opportunity to fight Pavlik.

Lets just face it Pavlik and his team know he is going to get outboxed by a boxer and his only chance of winning is to outlslug a fighter which at 168 that definately diminishes because the guys will be just as big as him.

You're really, really obsessed with Willie, aren't ya? Do you have a crush on the old fart, you sicko?

Kessler and Abraham both got their ass kicked and guess what, they went straight back to nationally-internationally televised big money fights and they can still win the whole tournament, compare that to getting your ass kicked by a career light-middleweight - how's that for "ruining your career for peanuts"?
With the group stages being over this year, two of the Super Six will be availble, and there's also Andrade, Bika, Stieglitz, Sartison and others, so unless Bobby keeps all the money for himself, he can easily find an opponent, it's just takes a bit more than peanuts.

The 'other' 168 pound belt is going to sit on it. Pavlik can't match what the milk train will pay.

You really think that HBO will be willing to put up money for Kelly to face the two 'losers' of the ShowBox tourney?

a lot of posters seem be giving kelly **** about staying at 160 where he can "use his advantages" and just bully people around the ring. this is a very short sighted criticism. if it is really that difficult for him to make 160 then even if he can boil down and make it those advantages won't be available to him, right? i mean how can he kill himself to make 160 and still be peak? on the flip side, why wouldnt he stay if he can do it and be healthy? that is what fighters do. if can be healthy and strong at mw...then he's a mw. what is the problem? if he cannot be healthy and strong at mw...then he's not a mw and won't stay.

the title of the thread is misleading and people just looking for a reason to rip kelly didnt even read the article.

i would like to see what he can do at 168 but i'm not calling the shots. so if he can make it, do it. if he cannot make it, don't do it.

I would be assuming that his expectations in terms of pay have now returned to more rationale levels in line with his current status? Have they?

He is growing on me like a fungus.

And what 'money' fights are there for Kelly out of those you named? Abraham and Kessler can go back to money, not on the TV revenues, but on gate. I'd be interested to know how much they are making in each fight. The article reports Kelly got $2.5 mill for the Martinez fight. I know that Abraham couldn't have gotten that based on gate in Detroit, even with the Show money thrown in.

The article says he went for Chavez as the best money fight available. A win and is close to where he was before and it sets up another fight with Martinez. Martinez said before his fight with Pavlik that he expected that he, along with Pavlik and Williams, would set up a series of fights. If he wins versus Chavez but doesn't feel good at the weight, he may still move up. Again, Chavez isn't a done deal until they have a nutritionist on board that feels he can get Kelly to weight safely. Given the timing and the fact Kelly is at 178 now, I don't expect this to be a problem IF Kelly has the discipline.
