Pavlik/Sturm "closing in" possible Oct. 3, Mora if no Felix

IB, I really think the citizens of Youngstown would storm Top Rank offices, drag Bob Arum out of his building and bombard him with rotten eggs if he announced Verno vs Pavlik.

 

Is Sergio that much better?

 

In a split hairs sense? I guess so. Sergio can at least claim relevancy in a sense that he beat Vernon Forrest cleanly in their 1st fight and he has some experience at 160. Verno may have beaten Cory Stinks but that was a really bad decision and even though I really dislike Cory, I think I can admit he lost no more than 3 rounds against Verno.

Verno is also dirt old if I'm not mistaken.

 

You're right, Christmas came early for Verno the year he beat Cory (how can you dislike him? Even if you find his style unappealing, he takes on all comers and has even begun to show a gutsy side lately).

Verno is a terrible opponent...I'd say, yeah, a ****hair worse than Sergio due to age alone. Why didn't anyone share this bit of insight with The Punisher? He took astonishingly little **** for it IIRC. :think Way less than Pavlik did for Lockett or Rubio, to be fair.

Paul and Kelly just need to stop pussyfooting around it and square off already so nobody has to groan over their opposition anymore. Wasn't it nearly a done deal sometime last year?

 

Gevor is knocking Sturm out.

Abraham will be available once again (for the last time) for the end of the year, I think the IBF will let him unify. Sturm would be a decent replacement for Abraham, but unfortunately Team Pavlik's aim is Sturm which is understandable, Top Rank has good experiences scoring a Felix Sturm fight.

I don't wanna sound like a dick, Sturm would be a great fight... but as Abraham is moving up after Oral unless Pavlik fights him... this sounds just like the right plan to avoid The King and even look like Pavlik is taking a risk. Top Rank see this as a calculated risk, but in reality, it means Pavlik is finally avoided Abraham for evough time to move up, and AND Sturm is absolutely no pushover, much better than Top Rank or Jack Loew anticipate. People will be very surprised if the Sturm fight gets made.

 

Even if the Abraham fight was guaranteed for Feb 2010 or something, I'm absolutely serious when I say Sturm can spoil the show. If not an upset, a razor thin Pavlik win and even a super-hard earned late stoppage would once again force Arum to realize: Abraham (or someone like Paul Williams) is too much risk. Although Top Rank remembers which judges to call, they seemingly forgot you can hardly look good against Felix, but you can look pretty bad easily.

Expect a Mora or Mora himself once and if Pavlik is done with Sturm.

 

A Sturm fight would be the next best thing from AA; and it's a relatively easy way to unify the division. Strategically, it's also a good move: Pavlik takes out Sturm, AA moves up and vacates his title, then Pavlik gobbles it up and becomes undisputed, then maybe a big fight with Williams if Arum and Goosen can grow some bollocks and put their differences aside.

I doubt Sturm will take it, though.

 

There's absolutely no reason not to belive that Pavlik will run Sturm over like he did Miranda. Sturm is a textbook boxer; he's nowhere near tricky enough to keep Pavlik off him.

 

What have you done man? :-( Now you have to write a letter of apology to Sturm for putting his name and that other guy's in the same sentence.
