Don't be fooled, this is NOT an easy fight by any means and I wouldn't be surprised if Pavlik lost it. Nice move from Pavlik, this is a great fight I can't complain about. Even though I would prefer a fight with Abraham this one isn't easy at all.
If it ever happens, Sturm will surprise a lot of people.DLH thought it was an easy win and was in for a big surprise. The same can easily happen to Pavlik.Sturm is seriously underrated because he got knocked out. That means exactly nothing when he enters the ring with Pavlik. He won´t be that careless. His jab will give Pavlik Problems. That being said, Pavlik is still the favorite to win this fight.
First let's address those people who keep bringing up Oscar. ODLH fought two fights at 160, and arguably lost them both. Oscar started his career at 135, and 147 was probably his best weight. There is simple no comparison between Oscar, and a huge middleweight like Kelly Pavlik. Second, let's look at Sturm's style and skills. Sturm has decent, well rounded, skills. He is fairly quick, has a nice jab, decent defense, and moves around the ring well. He cannot, however, keep Pavlik off of him for 12 rounds. He has nothing to make Kelly respect him, and if you can't get Pavlik's respect, you're basically ****ed. Third, it's time to stop critisizing Sturm's competition. He fought Sylvester last November, and he is fighting Gevor in July. That's better competition than Lockett, Rubio, Marquez, or Simon. At the end of the day, I'll take Kelly by TKO somewhere around 8 or 9 rounds.
There's plenty of things to say in Sturm's favor. This is not one of them. EDIT--Just to clarify before Deutschland wakes up and starts ripping me a new one: The DeLaHoya fight doesn't go AGAINST Sturm, but mentioning it in the context of a Pavlik fight falls under the category of "Damning With Faint -- Or At The Very Least Irrelevant In This Context -- Praise"
Boo are we forgetting he is fighting a live boxer who gave arthur all he can handle in gevor, I know you have not seen much of gevor, I have, and I honestly think gevor is going to be his toughest matchup to date. If he loses to gevor(i am calling a gevor sd win) things are going to be a mess in the middleweight division, as if it is not right now.
I think we are talking about a "styles make fights" situation. Sturm won't have the probelms with Gevor that Arthur had. Abraham would beat Sturm by KO, but ironically I think Sturm has fewer problems with Gevor than AA because Felix is quicker and lighter on his feet.
I agree too. But the Pavlik vs. Sturm vs. Abraham thing... If you had asked me one year ago it was like: "Abraham will ko both and Sturm has about 0% chance against them" But considering the last fights I´m not so sure. Abraham looked crap in his last fight, Sturm looked great against Sylvester and Kelly is boxing cans. I think I have to take some time and watch all available fight of the three again to make up my mind...
