The only way Pavlik comes back to prominence is if he ditches Jack Loew and finds a real trainer that can get him to do more the throw jabs and right hands.
He will be alright if he stays at middleweight but a step up another weight to Super i dont think he will have much joy against the elite in that division.
Pavlik is too basic and one dimensional to compete against the elites of the middleweight division and above. Super middle is far too hot for him and lightheavy has guys like Hopkins and Dawson - boxers who are far too intelligent for him. Pavlik will always lose to a guy with decent handspeed and how gives him some lateral movement so that he can't get set to land his right hand. If he can't do that he really is lost. He has to have his guy come to him or stand in front of him to be really successful. Though if Arthur Abraham stood in front of Pavlik I think he knocks Pavlik spark out. Abraham despite his limitations, is stronger, tougher and hits harder than Pavlik which = timber for Pavlik. Shame he is a nice guy it seems but he's just a good figher, not a great one or even an elite one.
he has a much better chance of getting his career in order if he does that. but new trainer or no new trainer, i think it's over for pav.
I hope he puts his head down and soldiers on. He can make an impact at 168 and 175 certainly. I'm assuming that 160 is out of the question for him anymore? But the mans days as some feared champ are done. He's not going to hit the heights that he was at back at middleweight.
Yes once Martinez is 40 and if Pavlik is still around he could possibly have a slight chance of beating him.
Frank Warren says he wants to match DeGale with Pavlik. There's no logical reason for Pavlik to give Degale the time of day, let alone a fight, but hey, Frank said it, not me.
I read what Frank Warren said, so naturally I checked out Degale on You Tube again. Within 30 seconds I saw Carl Dilks hit Degale flush with a 1-2. Dilks has little power. Pavlik has altered careers with a 1-2. Real bad idea from Warren at this point.
Yeah Im watching james Degale and george Groves are being fast tracked it seems both promotors/managers Warren and Booth are in a battle to see who can get there boys to the top the quickest and i can see it ending in tears, well it nearly did for george groves in the last fight but i think Pavlik against Degale could be really stupid as i think Degale has great potential just needs to slow down abit.
I agree about DeGale. I think the kid may have a lot of potential. Back in the day I saw guys like Leon Spinks and Davey Moore get "fast-tracked," and I saw how that turned out! I beleive in being cautious with good prospects. Don't throw them in the deep end of the pool until you're sure the ****ers can swim!
