kelly throws less punches but EVERY punch has beef on it and is meant to hurt the other guy. i think pw is very much a threat and this is a damn close contest but he has a tendancy to wing his punches in the later rounds with less pop, less accuracy and less concern about knocking the other dude out. i don't have numbers handy but i have a strong suspicion pavlik's connect % is better and MUCH better past round 6

the reason i think paul can wobble pavlik is because of his hand speed & strangeness of angles.... if you watch any paul williams fight where he knocked a guy out... the punches come from the most strangest of angles.. due to his length and awkward ness it just seems like punches are almost raining on you and those usually tend to be the most dangerous punches... so in terms of pw being able to wobble pavlik i definitely think its possible... I mean paul knocked kolle clean out and granted he isnt a champ or anything at 160 but he was never knocked out prior to that point and fought C+ level competition so i think pauls power is underated in the minds of most.... truth be told i definitely think pw can handle the pressure ... imo he is the best conditioned athlete in teh sport hands down... nobody else in the sport can throw 1100 punches in a fight and be in the 12th round looking like it was the first round... just like he said at the end of the fight with winky "Larry if you wanted to throw some gloves on me & you could go another 3 rounds" ... so the guy is in surpreme condition at all times... and i personally believe he is smart enough to stick to a game plan and fight pavlik off his back foot and fight him to a decision similar to margarito except easier... like i said before pavlik is not as dynamic as margarito at all... less punching variety, a more obvious rhythm, he isnt as mobile as margarito.... so at the end of the day this will all break down to pw's chin

if pw can take the punches or atleast stay away from the big ones for 12
    he takes it
if pw cannot take the punches
    we shall see
yeah but see thats my whole point.... the entire list of guys that you would make all sat there and tried to engage kelly or were just not that good to begin with... paul has enough skill where he could manage to pull out a decision by fighting off his back foot, clinching when necessary and picking his spots to make it a boxing match.... thats why I believe it will all really wind up being about whether paul can take kelly's punch or not.....

paul defense is ok.. not the best but ok but it wont be about defense in this fight... paul will have to keep pavlik moving and use strange angles just to confuse pavlik.... if you watch the jermain taylor fights. any time jermain taylor turned it into a chess match ... not a who can knock the other person out faster match... kelly would often be uncomfortable and fought at a slower pace and the rounds would go to jt.... im very confident paul can box better than jt.... i just have no idea how pw chin will react

Peterson & Williams are not that stupid.... even I know that paul cannot win a gun shooting contest against pavlik... yeah pavlik might get caught or something but its not the likely scenario.. if paul wants to win he needs to out box pavlik... a war of attrition would be like margarito vs cotto or something like that... .basically just the first guy to get knocked out

Ive seen a couple of his fights before hopkins, miranda is the one I remember, he looked pretty good, I also saw one of his earlier fights in 2006-7, KO'd the dude early, but he has never struck me as a defensive fighter
but he does seem to be a bread and butter guy, ya know, knows the basics, and ranks IMO good in all the basic category
one thing I learned about paul williams from a commentator though inn one of his last years fights, that he is ambidexterous
wonder if that might come into play and if it could give pavlik problems

I wish this fight wouldn't happen because I can see Williams being knocked out rather badly!... if Williams does win however, I'd be over the moon!

This would be a very good fight if it happens, I would give Pavlik having the edge due to natural size, strength, and experience at middleweight +. Paul, however, has the style to frustrate Pavlik, if Pavlik has shown a vulnerability, it has been his footwork and lack of ability to handle good lateral movement. With that said, I am not sure that is enough to tilt this into Paul's favor.

Kelly has been know to throw 100 punches a round sometimes. You think Paul can throw more when he has to worry about Kelly's? Yeah, you can thrown 100 punches a round against a guy wearing ear muffs and get away with it. I can see these two getting into a slugging match. Bigger, stronger guy wins it.

Paul williams is not getting into a slugging match with kelly pavlik.... thats basically the quickest possible way for pw to get knocked the **** out.. why would he do that honestly... **** aint happening

Kelly is a natural lefty and what he can do with his left hand is under rated except for the jab.

yeah good point:good his activity will be way down but i still see him trying to outwork kelly from the outside, which is probably his best bet. the problem is kelly has a fantastic jab or DOUBLE JAB and that'll make it difficult for williams to get set or get his rhythm going. inside he'll get out muscled, outside he may get outjabbed. williams is gonna have to give angles and lots of them. constant movement, varied arsenal and never plant yourself.

You are assuming Pdub EASILY dictates the pace and terms of the fight. If Kelly gets him cornered he has no choice. I don't think Pdub is good enough to win rounds while running/boxing whatever you call it. I've always wanted Pavlik to play Champion and make the challenger bring the fight to him. This would be a good time to start. Make Pdub come forward.

what im assuming is the obvious.... you sayign paul williams & kelly pavlik will be a war of attrition is like saying

floyd vs margarito would be a war of attrition
    or
bhop vs anyone woudl be a war of attrition

what your suggesting would not favor paul williams by any means so it obviously would never happen.... and paul williams wont ever go into the corners.... i mean its pretty simple "stay outa the ****ing corners" ha ha... it dont take a genius to understand / do that... and pavlik cant fight any other way then what he does... i wouldnt even want to see it because it would probably **** him up... he only knows one way

Well, obviously we won't agree on this one until after the fight. If even then. Still, when you pick a fight with an 800 pound gorilla, you quit when HE is tired. You have this vision of Pdub dancing around the ring at will doing whatever he wants. Even Bhop took one flush shot on a night Kelly was off. Have you ever seen Pdub fight anyone of Kelly's ability and not have a huge height advantage? Pdub is used to the monumental mismatch. Kelly has been more cloesly and even over matched more often. Advantage Kelly. But, ink isn't dry yet. It does seem the negotiations are serious this time. Like I said, this fight will be made if HBO throws enough money at Goosen that he can't back out.

yeah im saying williams is going to get hit... its boxing.. everyone does... thast why i keep bringing up pauls chin.. i just KNOW for a fact that if this fight happens it wont be some big ass war where both guys are just trading with one another till the other guy knocks out... thats the worse way to possibly fight pavlik... thats how everyone else fought pavlik and got flattened

all im stating is what I KNOW!... i know paul is fast enough and skilled enough with his punch variety & movement to pull a margarito again.... will he do so... i really dont know

but i know for damn sure it wont be a war of attrition...
