Kelly Pavlik’s trainer Jack Loew said his fighter has not yet made a decision about his future, contrary to a report by HBO’s Larry Merchant.

The rematch must take place at 160 pounds; Pavlik’s rematch against Jermain Taylor in February of 2008 took place at a 164-pound catch weight.

He might as well do it even though I don't think he can win. He doesn't have much to lose at this point. After that fight then move to 168 and see what happens. Matched carefully he could win a strap up there, he needs to stay the hell away from Ward, Dirrell and Bute

Bad news man, Bute is too skilled for him IMO.

Yeah, if you want whats left of Kelly Pavlik obliterated?

    It'd be a horrible mismatch.

The rematch was a 166 catch wt, but both guys came in weighing a bit less than that.

Completely irrelevant, why the **** should Martinez fight Pavlik at any higher weight than 160? If Pavlik can't make 160 healthy then he should
    just move to 168.

Yeah. I missed that. I just put that line in because of everyone claiming Pavlik was asking for the rematch at a catch weight when this seems to already be in the contract.

See post below your original. Someone made a thread about Kelly demanding a catch weight. That is why I posted that line.

There has always been some confusion over Pavlik/Taylor II. The contracted weight was 166, but both weighed in at 164, and entered the ring lighter than they did in the first fight.

go to smw. if he is up around 190+ right now i don't see how he will be able to get down to 160 and still have enough in the tank to keep martinez from doing what he does for 12 rounds.

additionally, his first fight at 168 should not be against bute. he should take a fight or two at smw before getting it on w/ bute. bika is available right? or steiglitz?

I know there'a a rematch clause, but can Pavlik force the rematch @ 164 catchweight or does it have to be only @ 160?

Yeah Bika would be a good matchup for him. Storng but not too skilled and relatively easy to hit. A fight he should win yet get tested in, good confidence booster.
