Good. He is a lost man. Problems with alcohol, compulsive liar... He needs help and he's not going to find it inside a ring. Straighten your life out Kelly.
Lots of rumours on Twitter and Facebook that Pavlik has retired,no official word yet though. edit it's official now http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/8859950/kelly-pavlik-decides-retire-preserve-long-term-health
its a shame but i believe his best days were behind him anyway. if anything this shows he wasnt very motivated as of late and would just have embarressed himself if he took a big fight with his mentality now. maybe he can take a year or two off and come back who knows.
He should never have come back, and when I suggested that when he came out of rehab,I took my fair share of pelters on here. A top level boxing career is a ****in hard game for someone who is level headed and dedicated, never mind a troubled soul like Kelly. I hope it saves him. He's a good lad.
I heard he's gonna' move to Florida & open a liquor store. - but on a serious note, kudos to Kelly! I retired from the Ams for the same reason. I was 20-0, and a heavily-defensive fighter ala Floyd / Ward (not as good, of course.) My 21st fight, a future famous MW knocked me cold. I suddenly realized how dangerous the sport was (had thought I was invincible) and retired the next day.
At that level you need to have extraordinary drive to perform. Maybe he's just fed up with it all? Anywho good on him if he indeed does retire.
If Chavez Jr. wasn't suspended for marijuana then Pavlik would get that fight. As it stands, the Ward fight is gone, so he can't fight anybody that will give him a big payday it appears.
