Does that even matter? Just wanting to move up doesn't always indicate it's a move to an ideal weight or even for the best. Look at Judah as an example. Was 147 his best weight? He was a World Champ @ 147 as opposed to being just a titleist @ 140. And now he's moving down. Anyone can see Pavlik is better and faster @ 160. He's more effective because he can fight guys his size. That's why 160 is his best weight class now. Talking about moving up EVENTUALLY doesn't mean his best weight isn't WHAT he weighs now.

I hate talk of legacy so early in a fighters career that talk come at tail end of fighters career or even after retires. Also resume can be deceptive. Take Calzaghe on paper his legacy and resume seems great ten years as champ with wins over other Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins plus a coming bout with Roy Jones. But look inside that resume it not as good as it is on paper. For most of Calzahge reign the super middle weight was weak and and Joe was a hot and cold fighter looking great in one fight and mediocre the next the Lacy and Kessler fights were great wins but fight vs Hopkins was a horrible style mush up and Jones fight will prove nothing though it will look great on the resume.
And now the irony is when Calzaghe is at top of his game and the super middleweights is at there strongest Calzaghe is going retire to protect that legacy and on paper resume:patsch

I doubt Pavlik will ignore any possible unification(which will add to his legacy if he wins) possibiltys. Especially the way Hopkins took him to school. I personally think he will unify in the very near future but first will most likely have a tuneup. Rubio will most likely be his next fight then Abraham after. Of course Pavlik will have to go through Rubio which should be easy for him and Abraham should get by Marquez pretty easily also.

Pavlik should rebuild his career, and hope for a fight with AA. As it is, Abraham has the ball, and Pavlik needs to travel.

Vincent G: You're right on point. What a silly fight for Pavlik to take. But, if your 26, don't give up your championship belt, get a couple million for a non-championship fight, why not ? It is a good future retirement move and helps pay for your kids education.

You ****ing betcha: Hopkins exposed the fact that if you fight an ATG while you're sick enough to need intervenous antibiotics and fluids, while simultaneously suffering from an elbow injury, you will lose.

So Pavlik Is using the Ricky Hatton excuse for being easily outboxed.

Hopkins didn't use his size, there naturally about the same size. Hopkins Is skinny framed too, he put on muscle when he moved up.

Pavlik was exposed as the minor world level fighter he Is.

He doesn't have to get rid of Loew, he can bring in an outside consultant to help him work on parts of his game.

The problem with Pavlik fighting guys like Rubio, Duddy, and Mora is that he can, and probably will, just go into his usual seek and destroy mode and beat them much quicker and easier than he beat Miranda and Taylor. There is no real challenge there, and therefore no need to learn new things.

I was pretty hard on Jack Leow immediately after the Hopkins fight. However, I think that the severity of Kelly's elbow injury, and the seriousness of his bronchitis does explan some of what went on in the corner. About the 5th or 6th round I think they just excepted the fact that they had made a serious mistake by not postponing the fight, and fought to make the distance rather than to win. However, I do think Team Pavlik needs to bring in some additional help; someone who can help Kelly grow into his full potential.

In my opinion the best way for Pavlik to get back on top is this:

    1) Carry Rubio for several rounds. Use Rubio as an opportunity to do things he normally does not do. Counterpunch off the back foot, keep him turning with lateral movement, switch to southpaw, et. Knocking Rubio out in 5 rounds would prove nothing. Giving him a 10 round boxing lesson, and then knocking him out, would make the bigger statement.

    2) Show the world the difference between the German middleweight champion, and the world middleweight champion by demolishing Abraham in 8 rounds. My opinion on this fight has not changed one bit. Abraham is ****ing target practice for Pavlik.

    3) Hand Winky wright his first KO loss.

If Kelly can do those things next year, his status will be right back where it was pre-hopkins.

I could see 2 years. He needs at least one, maybe two confidence boosters. Say Rubio and Duddy, although I'd rather it was a smarter fighter than Duddy since I fear for his health.

Then Abraham towards the end of next year, he shouldn't wait too long for this because I've a feeling Abraham does struggle with weight and won't hang around forever.

That takes us up to 2010 in all likelihood.

Hey Iceland! Ya now the biggest ****ing irony in all this? You may recall this. I predicted a long time ago that 1) a slick counter puncher with enough power to buy Kelly's respect would beat him; 2) I also predited that Pavlik would most likely lose his zero at LHW! I sure never imagined that it would happen this soon in a fight against a 43 year old career middleweight!

The problem with Pavlik besides fighting sick and not at his ideal weight and Hopkins fighting his best fight in years is Pavlik is a little green, Lets not for get Pavlik was fighting club fighter up untill 2005 guys like Calton Holland , Anthony Ivory and Pedro Ortega. He has fought three sluggers in Zuniga, Zertuche, and Miranda two boxer punchers in McKart and Taylor and one cute slick boxer in Beaupierre sence then between bouts with club fighters. I think Pavlik should get a little seasoning fighting a variety of foes 160 and think those guys won't be as easy everybody thinks.
I would like too see Pavlik in with more slick boxers types like Sturm, Winky, Lopez,Mora and Zbik who will give Kelly angles like Hopkins did.
Slugfests with Duddy, Abraham, Rubio and Lorenzo play into Kelly strong points and would be fun as hell.
If Pavlik wins all those matches I think should move up too 168 but not jump into a bout Kessler right away. Pavlik should fight guys who play into his strong points sluggers like Andrade and Froch then a boxer in Mundine and boxer puncher like Bute at that point Pavlik will have the seasoning to take on Kessler.
As for the excuses for Pavlik loss to Hopkins I buy into them and it not just that I am a fan of Pavlik. I am not a fan of Toney's but still think he lost so bad Jones was because Toney was having a problem making weight. I Think that Jones looked so bad vs Tarver was he come down in weight to fast after Ruiz fight.:deal
