Pavlik goes to his corner in round 3 and basically **** himself after feeling Jermain Taylors best shots only to then go out in the next round and win it convincingly along with every round after until he finally Knocks Taylor out. And you say taylor has the upper hand?:huh

There are boxing fans who still feel that pavlik is going to get knocked out in the rematch. Why? What on earth is taylor going to do so dramatically different that will give problems to Pavlik? Did any of you see Taylors face afterwards? If he didnt get knocked out in the 7th there was no way he was going to be able to even see. His face was a pummeled mess. There was no defense at all after round 4. Pavlik was straight jabbing him to death and taylor was eating glove the next 3 rounds.

Heres part of an article from our hometown paper:

Bruce Trampler once told me you’ll know when you have a true champion because he’ll get 25 percent better mentally and physically after he wins the title,” said Pavlik’s trainer, Jack Loew. “You can tell in Kelly’s attitude and his work ethic he wants to get better. He had us start 21⁄2 weeks ahead of schedule.
    “He was raring to go.”
At 6-foot-2, Pavlik is a big middleweight and often struggles to meet the weight limit of 160 pounds. The Feb. 16 bout, however, will be at 166 pounds, meaning Pavlik won’t have to starve himself to lose the last few before the fight.
“It’ll be less running on the treadmill, less time in the sauna,” he said. “But I look at the fight the same way. I’m doing the same stuff, but I have more to prove. I’m going to train even harder.”

All the naysayers who say that the added weight is going to help taylor are forgetting that the added weight is going to help pavlik as well. Brutal KO just like the first fight but this time alot sooner than the 7th.

agreed 100% about the weight thing. and yeah once pavlik recovered it seemed inevitable. taylor got out boxed, especially from the outside. and other than a surge, i dont see how taylor will come close when pavlik gets to add more power.

The only chance I give Taylor (and what I expect him to do) is to try and outbox Pavlik. I don't think he will stand and trade like the last fight. He was ahead on all the cards when he got knocked out, so I think he will just try to last the distance. That being said im taking Pavlik by ko 10, which is being pretty nice to assume he will last that long. I don't think he can go the distance with Pavlik even if he runs the whole fight. Kelly is great at finding people and is an excellent finisher.

I didn't think Pavlik even looked that worried in his corner after getting floored, certainly not shitting a brick. I think that this is one of Pavliks best qualities, being mentally strong and unphased by the other fighter and never getting away from his gameplan.

Of the two fighters, Pavlik has more potential to learn from the first fight and implement an even more effective plan in fight #2.

If Taylor wins this fight in a convincing manner I will be amazed and impressed. IMO it would be one of the biggest turnarounds I can think of, not so much by coming back after such a beating, but he just has not shown to have the mind set to think well in the ring under pressure. Although not very likely but, if in 2+ weeks he has somehow developed the ability to keep his head on task and win, that would be an incredible feat. Especially when you add his stamina issues into the mix. I've just convinced myself that for Taylor to win it will need to be by stoppage in the early rounds.

Great post. Not only will Taylor have to overcome the issues you mentioned, lets not forget about the most important...his psyche. Sure, he wants to erase the memories of his 1st defeat ever, but it dosen't always matter what you want in sports. If his psyche was damaged, he'll have a major mountain to climb. I could be wrong. What Pavlik did to him might have caused a "new" Jermain Taylor to be re-born & could show up to put on a tremendous performance.

The whole problem is, Kelly's gonna look even better, too.

    Should be awesome!

Then he'll be eating hooks instead of straight rights.

    (((((((((((GO PAVLIK)))))))))))))

I guess after the GIANTS win the Superbowl, it will be time to hop on the hype train for this fight. I'm a bit distracted with football right now.

Ya know, I like New England, too. My fav AFC team. But I can't root against my GIANTS, who I've followed since the early 80's.

Screw 19-0!!! Let those Dolphins celebrate one more time. I hate Don Schula.

More like unless he has found out that backing up in straight line towards the ropes isn't a wise idea.

To tell you the truth I became a Taylor fan the night he fought Pavlik. JT showed the heart and courage of a champion, and went out on his shield like a true warrior should! That's why I wish he had taken some road into the future other than this immediate rematch. It was Jermain's bad habits that got him brutalized and then knocked out. Moreover, he has been holding that left down low, and backing into the ropes and corners for a long time. In order to win this fight JT would have to change pretty much his entire approach to boxing, and he would have to make those changes in one training camp headed up by Ozell Nelson; the same Ozell Nelson who allowed him to develop those bad habits in the first place! That ain't gonna happen!

There are only two kinds of fighters who could beat Kelly Pavlik at 160-168. 1) A really slick boxer with great power and better defense (PBF if he was a natural 160.) 2) Some guy who is just a plain old bad mother****er who is strong enough and hits hard enough to force Kelly to fight off the back foot (Haglar in his Prime.) JT will NEVER fit either of those descriptions.

Furthermore, I read a recent interview with JT that made it pretty clear to me that Taylor honestly believes he can recreate round 2 of the first fight, and finish the job. The problem here is that in the first fight Kelly got cute and stuck his chin out. Watch it in slo-mo. Taylor caught Pav with some really good shots that hurt Kelly. Kelly did not go down, so JT threw in a few elbows for good measure. Kelly blocked an elbow to the head, and then stuck his chin out and dropped his hands. Taylor then proceeded to hit Pavlik with something like 15 punches! Kelly went down, but was up at a count of 1!! Pavlik still threw 46 punches in the round. By the end of the round he was back in control, and in the VERY NEXT ROUND he handed JT an ass whippin' I was impressed to see him survive. Kelly is a smart kid who gets better with each fight. I would venture to say he will never make the mistake he made again.

    Pavlik KO5 Taylor.
