Back then, Pavlik was on top of the boxing world and it wasnt uncommon for his sparring partners to simply walk out on workouts. The snaps back, Loew said. Thats what I havent seen the snap on his right hand. Hes putting three, four, five punches together instead of just that big one-two. I think hes got everything back that we had before. The snap, the stamina, his moves, his endurance. Its all there. Loew said Pavlik weighs about 184-185 pounds boxers are supposed to be within 10 percent of their fighting weight at the 30-day mark, which Pavlik is and Pavlik said he has noticed a huge difference between his energy in this training camp compared to his last few. Everythings different, Pavlik said. Even my defense. My movement, slipping punches, blocking punches ... theres just a lot more spring in my step. Like I said before, it was just a matter of being drained, exhausted in the last few camps. Now Ive got a load of energy.
I've got my fingers crossed that the comeback goes well for Pavlik....As encouraging as the interview sounds, I've got to wait until I see it on fight night before I buy into it though.
I hope its true, this would be great! I've lost a lot of faith in Pavlik, but I will be watching his next fight and if he's really back then I will be back in supporting him... Either way I just hope he's gotten his personal life together, always seemed like a good guy and I wish him the best...
Good to hear.. Hope he looks impressive against Lopez in May.. Not real huge on the guy, but I do hope the best for him and hope he gets back on the right track..
Good. I liked the guy. Always brought excitement to the table. There's some potentially huge fights for him down the line if he keeps himself in good shape too.
Pavlik seemed like a monster but it was all (great white) hype in the end. Great fights against Taylor but really his time has gone and he will never compete at the top level. Maybe it was the booze or his head or maybe he was never that good...
That's a pretty harsh assesment man! He was starting to overturn Martinez when they fought, before he was badly cut and bamboozled in the final rounds. And if I remember correctly the rumours of is drinking problems started before or during the period he fought Martinez. The whole great white hope thing gave him a lot to live up to no doubt, but to say he is purely the result of marketing and was never good in the first place isn't entirely true for me.
 BS, Pavlik was a legit middleweight champion, his alcohol problems got the best of him though. To say he was hype? No, that's crap, you don't get to be MW champ like he was, beat Taylor twice, and be just 'hype'. He lost to B-Hop which isn't a huge deal considering what B-Hop is still doing and he lost to Martinez when Pavlik clearly wasn't at his best and now we see how brilliant Maravilla is. 168 will be a much, much more comfortable weight for him too.
Martinez clearly won the opening rounds but Pavlik started to adjust and win some in the middle. By the end though he was cut and looked exhausted and that's when Sergio really put the beating on him.
