Hahaha yeah, I know. I was just baiting you or Booradley. And it worked! I'll cheer on PWill no matter what, but at least I'm not delusional like walk_with_me and NeckBreakinAiken.
You're a good fan. I've been saying simliar things about Mallinaggi/Khan. Put Paulie in with a damn Klitscho, and I still root for Paulie:yep
If you like him you better hope the fight doesn't happen. I think Kelly might do what Vitali said he would do to David Haye. Carry him and punish him for 11 1/2 rounds and then end his career. I think Kelly really wants to jack him up bad.....
The last few years have been poor. The mandatories have been a real drag, they've been really awful opponents. That's not his fault, shame on the organizations. The failure to get any of the other titlists in the ring, specifically Abraham, was a black mark against both. It looks worse for Kelly because Abraham has moved up and signed up to a tournament where he's fighting good fights regularly and Pavlik hasn't been doing anything. The injuries have also disrupted him recently. I think things could get better if he keeps winning, there are some good upcoming fighters that will test him and provide much sterner competition as long as the fights get made. The irony is he's probably going to fight Martinez and Williams and then move up just when new blood is coming into the middleweight scene.
SMW will offer 'proven' tests and more money so that might be the best career move. Only time tells of course. It may all be relative to him. He doesn't have to buy an entourage and go to expensive places throwing money in the air to validate himself. Anything he earns at this point is just extra padding in the nest so I think he is looking at it from that angle.
There are enough good Jr. Middles (Williams, Cintron, Foreman, Angulo, Lara), Middles (Martinez, and only him I guess), and Super Middles (Bute, Pascal, Dawson?) to pass his time until the Super Six ends. If Kelly is still on top then he can fight the S6 winner.
Williams will be much easier for Kelly to find. I think this Martinez fight could end up horribly wrong stylistically and give KP the type of unsatisfying win that Taylor got against Wright and Spinks.
There are good middleweight prospects coming through, believe me. They just need a couple of years to get to that level.
If he beats Martinez, he'll be well and truly back on the map. If he doesn't, you lot won't have to worry about him anymore.
True enough, and it's a damn shame really. Check out my reasoning. Pavlik is the legit linear champ who has a direct and easily traceable lineage back to all 4 major titles. He has an 86% KO ratio, and nobody ever last more than 9 rounds with him at 160. (Can you hear the hype machine running?) We have several top shelf prospects coming up, and if they are handled correctly, none will suffer more than 1 loss while honing their craft. (Turn the hype machine up a little louder.) The seasoned, veteran champion stands at the top of the hill, and knocks off a long series of top flight contenders. And then finally, one day the champ loses, but nearly every observer knows that father time beat the champ long before the young gun did. That's the **** legends are made of. (It was fun to post too!) The problem is Kelly came into this camp a solid 186 pounds. His days at middleweight are numbered.
right now Pavlik couldn't carry Taylor's jockstrap when comparing title reigns. Taylor: Bernard Hopkins(top 4 greatest Middleweight ever) Winky Wright (P4P stalwart) Kassim Ouma Cory Spinks (IBF strap holder at 154) Kelly Pavlik Pavlik: Gary Lockett (bum) Marco Antiono Rubio (bum) Miguel Espino (bum)
Hopkins took a lot of Pavlik's confidence. Pavlik needs to take a chance and fight someone good to get his confidence back.
