Of all the fights between 160 and 168 fighters this is the one I can not rest my opinion. I also think that this would be a very exiting fight because of both fighters styles. Your views??????
tough fight to pick. bute holds the higher skill but has shown the stanima problems. plus the chin. bute could most likely box him to a UD though.
Tough one, Bute could outbox him, but if Andrades pressure told and he caught up with him, then Pavlik could certainly do the same. I would lean towards Pavlik by late stoppage, but it depends how much he has to eat on the way in. I have only seen the last couple of rounds of Andrade-Bute, and if Andrade had to take huge amounts of punishment through the earlier stages of the fight then it changes things a bit, because nobody can walk through barrages and keep going like Andrade. Margarito is the only other name that springs to mind who has that sort of chin and resolve.
This fight will never happen either at 168 lbs or at 175 lbs so I'm not going to spend too long giving a detailed answer. This fight could only take place at 168 lbs because Bute cannot make anything less than that. My view is this: Pavlik's power at 168 lbs is not very great. Bute has a very good chin. However, he doesn't like pressure. Pavlik comes forward in straight lines behind the jab, setting up his right. He doesn't lunge forward throwing very wide punches from a distance like Bika and he doesn't throw from every angle whilst coming forward like Andrade. You cannot outbox Bika as he lunges forward, unless you keep your distance and attack fast, from range, like Bute did, and you cannot keep Andrade at a distance by boxing, even with good power, unless you can do what Kessler did. The linear, predictable jab-right pressure that Pavlik provides would not be an unsurmoutable challenge to Bute. Pavlik can be outboxed by good boxers with good lateral movement and good footwork and Bute has these qualities to a sufficiently high extent. On the other hand, Pavlik can be hurt and Bute has the speed and power to hurt him enough to stop him in his tracks and dampen his attacks. Bute would use his counterpunching skills, his speed, footwork, movement, and range to win a confortable decision. There is a small but significant chance that Bute might even stop Pavlik, most likely with bodyshots. I think it's a mistake to analyse this fight by using Kessler vs. Bute as a model, and consider Pavlik a poor man's Kessler. Kessler is much more than just a better version of Pavlik.
I don't think Pavlik could walk through what Andrade did. Against Hopkins, he did not look good when he was himself pressured. And hopkins showed everybody that if you move well, Pavlik is not even able to jab. Bute moves very well, he's a southpaw, and pretty much bigger than Pavlik. So he won't be exhausted at the end of the fight. Bute by UD.
It would have been easier for you to provide an answer that could have stood up to scrutiny if you had watched Bute's fights against Bika, Berrio and Andrade, as well as Pavlik v. Taylor 2 and Hopkins v. Pavlik. :deal
Bute on points. Quicker and slicker in a UD 116-112, unless he gets stupid like he did with Andrade, but I don't think he'll do that.
Bute close UD.Pavlik at 68 isn't as strong,as fast,as mobile. His footwork is gone even though it ain't special anyway.
