Pavlik V Calz... the more I think about it the more I think this fight should happen.

JC wasn't shot a few months ago but one tough fight and he's looking for a way out? Abraham vs Pavlik isn't going to happen till 2009 so that leaves plenty of time for Pavlik to fight JC and then AA. Calzaghe does a lot of talking but he got caught bluffing.

Look at the assumptions you are making - the opposite could just as easily happen.

JC is not prime and is shot IMO but yet the onus is on him to fight Pavlik because Pavlik beat the amazing J.Taylor. JC is over the hill so just leave him and a shot RJJ to have their exhibition fight and retire.

That doesn't make much sense. How is he more limited?

He beat Kessler just over 6 months ago. I dont think he totally shot, just that Hopkins cramped his style.

JC has been shot since the Bika fight which he struggled with Bika's strenght and Kessler would have beat him if his hand had not been hurt in training. He was not even prime in the lacy fight. In fact JC prime was 2002 to 2004 when he fought Brewer and Mitchell but he wasted his prime years. bu not chasing the bigger fights.

You seem to struggle with this P4P thing. If Hopkins was rated Top 5 P4P his age is irrelevant - it means that he was one of the top 5 active boxers at that time.

Pavlik is in the lower half of the top 10 (if I am correct) and fights at 15lb below Hopkins. So why you downplay that win for Calzaghe I don't know. Also you seem to imply that Calzaghe needs Pavlik for his legacy. There is always another fighter to beat, you've got to know when to get out.

This is a great point and it seems that people will keep saying JC ducked fighter X Y and Z untill they see him defeated. Next it will be Dawson then it will be Cunningham and on and on untill JC is 50 years old. I really do beleive that RJJ will KO and beat JC.

Hopkins is a good win but being 43, joe not looking to good at all, and the fight being won by a "contentious" split decision; doesn't help. Taylor also beat a younger version of Hopkins twice and more convincingly. Hopkins was nowhere near his best.

I just think that it would be great if an elite fighter just once in his long 15 yr plus career would take on a prime, live opponent, top ten p4p fighter.

*I realise p4p is subjective but the Ring magazine is the Universal reference we all have to go by.*

I think Pavlik would add to Joes legacy, but thats just my opinion.

Beating Pavlik would mean more than beating RJJ, for sure.

Gee how long did you have to think about it??

Along with ducking Pavlik the reasons you've stated are among the reasons that Joe will always just be The Cardiff Ice Rink Champion:deal

So are you saying that Hopkins wasn't elite ? But think Pavlik is ?

Really how long have you followed boxing ? Pavlik hasn't beaten anyone outside of Taylor who can even come close to being elite how does beating a barley proven middleweight add to an already hall of fame legacy ????????

It should happen but won't. It would prove who is the best fighter in the World between 160 - 175.

Well considering that Pavlik is not the best fighter from 160 to 175 this fight wouldn't prove much ..
