Imo (and deep down teke's as well :yep) Mundine has passed his purple patch of his career and is on the way down. I used to think that he'd have a good shot against Pavlik simply because of his style, and thats before Bernard got to him. I think Mundine never should have went down to middle, and I'm not just thinking that in hindsight either. I've always taken into account his weight when he played league for all those years, which I doubt is something that guys like RJS, etc did when they told him to go down. Mundine nowdays gets hit way too much, whether thats from his eye thing or due to the fact that he's been fighting cans for the last 2 years and can afford to make mistakes and get careless and get away with it, I don't know. But he wont be able to get away with it against Pavlik. A Mundine/Green, Soliman 2 performance would be required at the very least, and I haven't seen anything close to that from Mundine since...well since those fights.
I reckon mundine is open to the left hook more than anything and that is not a money punch for pavlik, I still maintain the echols win is the blueprint for mundine to beat pavlik. But he would have to bring his A game i agree
If the fight was staged in the US, Mundine would be very unlikely to get away with the amount of holding he did in the Echols fight. He fought a smart albeit unadventurous fight, but he did ride his luck with the referee a little.
Ash, Perhaps , under your name, in your avatar, you could write this; 'Taking self ownage to a new level'. That is all.
he fights like he trains. he spars quantity rounds, not quality. so he ends up fighting quantity rounds, ie, he goes the distance. if he stopped sparring so much, and worked on quailty of his skills, speed, power, movement etc, with a good trainer, the kos would start to come again. the fact is mundine gets flogged in the gym. had he had a decent trainer that nurtured his talents, instead of flooging him in the gym, mundine would be a different and better fighter than he is today.
The boss of HBO in an interview on another scene spoke about his preference for Pavlik v Williams then Pavlik v Martinez if the Williams fight could not be made. I don't think Mundine is even on the radar (unfortunately).
If I divulge that, I won't get any tidbits like this. Comes from someone associated with one of the camps. Purse more than the inital offer to Williams.
Oh dear..... atsch That's got to be up there with the biggest and silliest statements ever made on here!!!
looks like Martinez is the frontrunner.still running from Williams.bad luck for Mundine he wouldnt knock Pavlik out but he would mark him up badly with his jab.
