I think Pavlik would have UDed Abraham. AA's whole game was to sit back for a few rounds and figure out his opponent's attack rhythms before exploding through their windows of calm. Pavlik wouldn't have given him that opportunity because he would have put AA under constant pressure and used his longer reach to keep AA in his shell. Even if AA hurt him (very feasible, as AA hit like a tank) Pavlik was great at weathering storms and coming back stronger. Shame it never happened, as it promised to be an explosive affair.
At the time I remember thinking Abraham would walk him down and stop him but in hindsight Abraham wasn't as good as I thought he was.... I'd take pavlik to win by wide UD
Most likely Pavlik by decision but he better not slip or lose his focus even for a second. Abraham at middleweight looked indestructible coming at you with his looooooong forearms protecting his upper body entirely like Captain Armenias shield, punches ricocheting all over the place. Pavlik brings his running shoes, he wins. Pavlik stands his ground like a man, he is in for a lot of hurt.
Great post. Great point about Abraham ultimately accomplishing a respectable amount at 168, which seemed far from what was to be in the aftermath of the Super Six. People didn't quite give him the dues.
There's no denying that AA was a monster at middle mate I just always thought such a height and reach advantage would be too much of an advantage for AA to overcome and he would not have KO's Kelly in a million rounds as Kelly was far too elusive for that imo, hence the UD .
I like Pavlik to beat him in a wide UD, AA would give away too many rounds and I don’t see him knocking Pavlik out.
I always thought that Arum avoided the fight. People don’t remember the powerful AA from MW. They remember the old SMW, hold his guard up and block punches AA.
