He was pretty obviously biding his time and then clobbered him when he saw his chance. Pantera is not an elite fighter. Were it not for the broken jaw, AA would have ko'd him in the first fight. I watched it today and AA started hurting Pantera in round 4 just before he got his jaw broken.
Well, in the irony of ironies here, Kelly doesn't usually go for the knock out and can be patient. So, it wouldn't take much for him to outwork AA from the outside and make AA come to him.
Not only was he losing rounds to Miranda, but those wild ass haymakers that took Miranda out would not have hit Pavlik (The straight right that started the ball rolling WAS pretty damned wicked.) Styles make fights, and Abraham would have to RADICALLY alter his style in order to make it past the mid rounds against Kelly.
I'd love to see Kelly change his style for this one. Hit him from range and step back and make AA come to him. That would be different. :yep
I'd just like to see him stay away from AA's power and frustrate him into making mistakes. Kind of like a role reversal.
As impressive as Abraham was tonight I still lean towards Pavlik. I think because he maintains distance better than Miranda that he'll be a tougher fight. He's also much more patient with his work and won't chase the KO. He'll let it come to him. Abraham is a helluva puncher though.
Miranda is the only credible fighter that AA has stopped. All the others were guys off the "C" list. And Miranda is a fringe contender at best.
And he won 1 round. the rest of the time he took a beating. Tonight was a good win for AA, and he deserves some serious Kudos for coming to the US and taking this rematch in Miranda's back yard, but it was Edison Miranda, a guy who has consistently lost every important fight he has been in!
Pavlik by a fairly wide UD. Pavlik controls the fight with his jab and right hand and keeps his distance with his feet. Abraham is too wild to beat Pavlik IMO AA could catch him though.
