I'm not sure about this one. You can fight below the weight, just not above. The way I see it, if they fight at 168, that is below the LHW limit of 175. Anybody know for sure?

I wouldn't have said it would have eliminated much, he made 170 for the snoozer with Stinky last year

    Repost:

If Calzaghe made 168 pounds, it would give Pavlik the opportunity to add all of Calzaghe’s belts. If Calzaghe came in over 168, then only the light heavyweight belt could be at stake.

Either way--the prospect of Pavlik fighting Cal gets better every day.

Not only would the buildup to the fight be great--regardless of what you think of them, Enzo Calzaghe and Jack Loew love to talk--but it would also have so much on the line. If Calzaghe wins, he gets yet another legacy victory that increases his stock considerably in terms of resume. If Pavlik pulls it off, he becomes a simultaneous three division, lineal champion and possibly propels himself into superstardom.

When this fight happens depends on the Miranda-Abraham fight. If Miranda convincingly beats Abraham then the fight with Pavlik becomes less attractive even though Abraham would still have his belt at 160. That really leaves no long term target other than Calzaghe for Pavlik. Calzaghe is known to think he'll dominate Pavlik's style, whereas he isn't so confident about tackling the speed of even an over-the-hill RJJ. He loves the thought of a straight at him guy like Pavlik though, so will depend on whether Arum wants it sooner rather than later depending on Abraham-Miranda, and of course the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

You mean it takes a boxer like Joe Calzaghe to beat Joe Calzaghe?

Pavlik would be silly to turn dwn a pay day superfight like Calzaghe to concentrate on Abraham, mainly becauase Abrahham who will eat Miranda comfortably in the rematch isnt going to go anywhere anytime soon, I see him retaining his IBF bauble for a while, Pavlik could in theory fight Calzaghe then win or lose fight Abraham afterwards.

Fact ios Abraham has tme on his hands, he'll be around in a while Joe will have one or maybe 2 more fights, max!

Pavlik - Abraham is a great figt, but Calzaghe - Pavlik is much better.

I really want this fight to happen much more than Calzaghe v Jones.

I want Lockett to win of course but that's extremely unlikely and when Pavlik wins I don't see why this can't happen at 168.

Its a great fight legacy wise for both fighters. The only sticking point I can see is if it could generate more cash than the Jones fight for Calzaghe and it would have to be in Wales.

Calzaghe is looking for one massive pay day before retiring.

Pavlik does have ONE weapon that might make it interesting...that lethal right hand.

If Pavlik finds himself a strategy where he can unleash that right hand and catch Calzaghe with it, he'll put himself in the position to win the fight. The problem is Kelly is predictable, a little on the slow side with his hands and not sound enough defensively to get in those opportunities.

I'm glad this fight is in talks, Pavlik would be showing massive guts to take a fight like this on.

It's simply because of the money it will generate that's all.

This fight would sell 50,000 in Wales. No offence but where else in America would get near that?

It makes financial sense for both fighters.

A November fight would only give Pavlik 4 months to add the additional weight. I'd rather he had 6 months. He has fought as high as 170, but that was against a nobody. In the second Taylor fight Kelly did not add any weight. He just took off less than usual, and did not dehydrate as much. He actually weighed less on fight night than he did against Miranda. Adding the right kind of weight in the right places is not an easy task.

When Pavlik moves to 168 he should make it a permanent move, and do it right. Take 6 months to add the weight, and fight at least one guy off the "C" list before he goes after the big guns. If he did it that way, he would become the dominant guy in the division very quickly. If he screws around fighting out of his own division and bouncing around divisions, we could see very different results.

Who's to say it wont sell 100,000 in the states?

MSG would make financial sense as well.

Plus the PPV alone sales from the states would no doubt be greater than the Brits.
