Thats what I'm thinking. Kelly can get a really really nice win over Abraham and then have a huge showdown with Calzaghe, There is no way RJJ beats Calzaghe at this state in his life. If Calzaghe doesn't fight Pavlik after Jones than I'm pretty sure he will retire because it is his only real big fight option. Im 100% sure Calzaghe doesn't give a damn about Dawson, I don't really either. I'd rather see Calzaghe vs Pavlik but thats just me.

I'm a fan of Miranda, Calzaghe and Pavlik. And the way I would set this up would be

    Pavlik vs Abraham
    Joe vs Jones

    Then early next year
    Pavlik vs Joe
Miranda vs Kessler (or Miranda vs decent fighter)

And middle or late next year we'd have

Pavlik(if he beats the aging Joe) against the winner of Miranda/Unknown

    :think

    Pavlik

It shuts people up, he'll probably get most credit for it and it should be a good fight from a stylistic viewpoint

To me Dawson is an interesting fight, and a tougher one in my eyes, but its not even on the agenda it seems

There isn't any cold hard evidence of anything, and there very rarely is on Eastside Boxing.

This gives Kelly Pavlik fans and American Boxing fans another reasons to criticise and discredit Joe Calzaghe.

It just seems strange then that no other boxing/sports websites are reporting this.
Hey, I'm totally prepared to call Joe on his **** if indeed such an offer was made and declined.
But the proof so far is lacking. And some guys said BBC said it doesn't mean a whole lot.

You should be all about it. Calzaghe has the best chance of beating Pavlik right now and Pavlik has the best chance of losing.

If a year passes, Pavlik gets better, and Calzaghe gets worse.

Where the hell is this BBC article coming from? Did you Pavlikites dream this **** up?

I just checked and there is **** all on there except an article on the Roy Jones fight, which mentions Pavlik as a potential opponent, but nothing of an offer.

Not gonna happen. Joe has stated recently that the fight with RJJ will be his last, and then he will retire.

I don't think Pavlik would mind fighting Calzaghe early 09 rather than this year. The longer this fight takes to make the better the chances of a Pavlik Victory.

You missed the point when RJJ flew to Wales to talk to JC. RJJ didn't show any interest before to fight JC (i'm talkin just about say the past 12months) and therefore JC concentrated his efforts on Pav.

After RJJ came out saying he wanted JC, JC stated he wanted to fight him. And JC would get more for fighting RJJ thats why i think he is fighting him. That 10mill is a fake figure, if he does get offered that i would bet he would take it.

But for JC its all about economics it seems ala Mayweather, sad but i kinda can and can't understand it

I don't believe it at all. Joe will fight 2 more times, If he has a good win over RJJ, he will be left greatly unfulfilled and he will once again want to take out another young up and coming undefeated fighter. I want Calzaghe to fight Pavlik so bad, I like both guys - but you can't retire on a better note than beating Pavlik and then retiring, at least thats the best option and the best way Joe has to retire thats available to him.

I totally agree. As a boxing fan, then, you accept the fact that the fight with Pavlik would be a much better fight and a fight that most fans would want to see? A fight with Jones will essentially be Calzaghe vs. Hopkins II because Jones is not busy enough at this stage of his career.

    Pretty much exactly that

I don't care about Roy Jones. People take me defending Calzaghe's supposed ducking (with no actual evidence to back this up) as a sign I want to see him fight Roy Jones. Couldn't be further from the truth

Roy Jones is a great event, but only an event, there is no interest from a boxing viewpoint. Pavlik, Dawson or even a Kessler rematch interest me more.

I would love for him to go out fighting Pavlik, but Calzaghe seems content on fighting an old RJJ and holding on to that 0. Seriously, he doesnt want to risk losing that 0. He is calling the fight with past it RJJ "the fight of my life". How pathetic......

How, then, do you view Calzaghe's career right now? Is he an ATG or a HOF fighter?

Realistically, Joe probably needs one or two more relevant wins to claim a place as a top 100 ATG. He is bordering on it in my eyes, but it doesn't really matter what I think alone. To claim a consensus position he'll need to do more

HOF for sure, it ain't difficult to make that anymore
