First post, I've been reading for the past several months and decided to join. Since there is a new Pavlik vs. Abraham thread a few times every month the idea of a Pavlik-Froch fight was kicked around before the Super Middleweight tournament. How do you guys see this fight going and why?
I don't know but i think Pavlik takes this. I think Pavlik would be the aggressor and i don't think Froch knows how to fight going backwards. It would be similiar to Miranda/Pavlik in terms of the style. Pavlik's straighter punches and high output might get him the UD or possibly late KO. But then again, with Froch's chin and power, he could very well stop Pavlik. But i like Pavlik in this one.
i'll be the first to admit that there are some 168lb matchups i don't like for kelly right now (ward and bute esp), but i think he stops froch. in fact i think he'd take carl out behind the woodshed and beat him like he stole something. i say this b/c of carl's habits vs. what kelly does well is not good for carl. he has less movement than kelly and his hands are around his waist w/ his chin hanging over his lead foot. for all of kelly's flaws, a very solid jab and very effective straight right behind it arent among them and this would work almost too good against froch. pavlik destroys people who stand right in front of him. what troubles kelly is the opposite of what carl does in the ring. in reality, if you really study both fights, froch fights like taylor did in pav/taylor I minus any movement and quickness. watch where taylors feet are and where his hands and chin are and then watch how froch fights. i say this only to illustrate why i think what pav does well would work even better on froch than it did against taylor. froch is a strong man w/ a lot of heart and stamina as he has shown but he can be hurt and i just don't see him getting out of this on his feet
It would be a hell of a fight in the same mold with Pavlik/Miranda. Pavlik would put Froch on his back foot, and declare war. We'd be on the edge of our seats with our hearts in our throats just like all the Pavlik and Miranda fans were for that fight. However, with the passing of time, and multiple viewings of the action, we'd look back and realize it was more of a one sided beatng than a FOTY candidate. Pavlik KO8 Froch.
if old man river can make him his ***** and then at the end of the fight make him basically call him daddy with all the 'yes sir, yes sirs' imagine what a prime froch would do.
are you just giving hermit **** or are you implying that bhop and froch are similar in their styles :think
Froch is even more susceptible to a simple 1-2 than Taylor was. If Froch learned to guard something besides his knee cap with his left hand, and learned to stop telegraphing his jab, his chances would be much better. As it stands, we'd see lots of good action, but inside 8 rounds Pavlik would knock Froch down for the third or fourth time, and even Smoger would stop the fight.
