Pavlik bets win was against Taylor (2 times) Kesslers wins dont even come close to that + Kessler power is over rated...wathc Mundine etc. Forget Beyer...he was there to be taken. Also Calzaghe would have stopped Kessler if Joe had been a few years younger.....(Just Watch the fight When Kessler gets hurt by a SLAP to the body)... PAVLIK KO. Kessler is the definition of the word HYPE....hes a handsome white guy who fights B level Chums in Europe.
Kessler is not a KO-type fighter! And his power is being overrated... His overall skillset is being highly underrated by some though (mostly americans as it seems). Froch, Miranda, Berrio and Andrade are all bigger punchers than Kessler at SMW. Kessler is by no means a featherfisted fighter. So regular KO sometimes happens. Hell even Ottke won on KO
I'm not sure how anyone can say Kessler clearly has more power then Pavlik. Tell me, how many times has Kessler made a top-level opponent crumble like Pavlik has? There's also nothing to indicate he has more power then Taylor, either.
The point I was trying to get across is the following: When you rate a boxers punch power you need to put it in context. I'm saying: It's one thing to hit a stationary bulls head in any amusement park. It's a whole different story hitting a moving target in a boxing ring. It's just very difficult to unleash max power against a ring-smart and slippery guy like Calzaghe, for example. You can even say that the guy who hits harder on a stationary target (bulls head) may hit softer in a boxing ring due to slow footwork. I think the latter could be the case with Pavlik vs. Kessler. On a stationary target I'm sure Kessler hits harder based on some of the KO's he's produced, whilst in a fight situation against top fighters I don't think you'll se any pronounced difference between the two.
You can say the same thing about Kessler. Difference is Taylor has faced better competition including Hopkins (twice) and Wright who each have never been KO'ed in 50 + fights. Spinks ran around the entire fight, Ouma there isn't as much of an excuse but he's not going to KO everyone, and Pavlik who also has never been KO'ed and has a great chin. Again, there is nothing to indicate Kessler has more power.
