I tend to agree although Pavlik has more impressive resume. Kessler is just unfortunate to be in the same division/era as Calzaghe. Without JC, Kessler would have cleaned up 168 division and reigned longer.
If Pavlik can get out of the early rounds he could make this a pretty brutal encounter. Kessler showed a lack of head movement in the Mundine fight as well as the Calzaghe one and seems uncomfortable under pressure. That said I think Kesslers better handspeed/accuracy will be the difference. He'll probably be able to lay on enough hurt to keep KP from teeing off on him to much. Kessler by ud. Also I disagree with those who say one fighter is on another level, I think they're evenly matched and would love to see them matched up in the future.
Pavlik throwns less punches than Calzaghe: Calzaghe-Kessler - 84 punches a round Pavlik-Taylor - 69 punches a round Calzaghe is much harder to box than Pavlik is - people seem to forget that Pavlik was loosing the fight with Taylor on the cards - Taylor was the better boxer in there and Kessler does everything Taylor does just better.
IMO Kessler doesnt throw better combinations or have a wider variety of punches however i agree that Kessler is more effective or just the better boxer
Kessler losing a competitive bout to great Calzague doesn't hurt him at all. I think Kessler would be able to stun Pavlik several times in such a bout, winning by UD, despite Pavlik's higher workrate. This is a fight that should happen naturaly at SMW in a year or two, no need for a catch weight.
It's not very likely (Kess couldn't stop lesser opponents this early), Kessler is a slight favourite though. He can stop Pavlik in late rounds IMO, all he has to do is box and counter with power. Another scenario is Kessler gets caught with Kellys right hand...
I pretty much agree - so does people in the poll - three possible outcomes: Kessler on Points - Kessler (T)KO - Pavlik (T)KO.
Bull**** -- that's not true and Joe knows it even if most of the posters in this forum don't. Immediately after the Taylor fight Calzaghe called Pavlik out. BEFORE any other fights were made, and BEFORE JT exercised his rematch clause, Calzaghe ran down to the nursing home, and picked a fight with BHop. Slappy Joe wants no part of Kelly Pavlik. Clazaghe woud last longer than anyone else has, but he has NOTHING in his arsenal to keep Pavlik off of him over 12 rounds, so he still gets knocked out, and HE knows it.:hi: Boo
you do realise that pavlik was in no position to go matchmaking before taylor had made his mind up whether to exercise the rematch clause or not? calzaghe and pavlik are not ducking each other because there has simply been no contact between either camp. anyone who thinks otherwise needs to pull their ****ing head out of their arse.
:rofl i have got to stop watching the tv ,while typing and pressing submit before actually reading my own drivel.
