Styles make fights. Pavlik would likely knock Kirkland out. Pavlik would look like he's a master boxer in there with a guy like Kirkland who has no movement at all. He's made for Pavlik to look good against.
whoever picked kirkland doesnt know sh** about boxing!! Kelly lost to a speedy boxer martinez! Kirkland is taylor made for kp! Pav is the naturally bigger man and is imo more durable!! That said, id still love to see this fight.. it would be an all action scrap!! PS: id also love to see el perro and james go at it... that would be a toss-up
I'm pretty shocked that theres an EVEN amount of ppl picking Kirkland! James wouldnt even beat Angulo, let alone Pavlik. But I'm sure some tards would prob pick Angulo over Pav too. I HATE to side with the Pavlik groupies, but he is getting to be underrated now. Kirkland beating Pavlik is honestly a joke. Kirkland would be undersized, has a face first style, has been dropped before, and his power is way overrated. Pavlik would bury him.. and those citing the Martinez fight as a reason Kirkland would win are severly lacking in boxing acumen.
Pavlik punishes guys whp stand in front of him he would crush him. Maybe a mover would beat him but no undersized middleweight who will stand toe to toe will beat Pavlik it takes a slick savy technician. Kirkland is neither
Pavlik was starting to figure Martinez out also until the cut. He was landing a good percentage of his power shots 5 through 8.
Yeah yeah yeah w/e. Its no coincidence that Martinez caused the cut and dominated as soon as he began bouncing around again and letting his hands go. And who's to say Martinez wont cut him to pieces again?
he would stop kirkland, no doubt. about martinez...he may very well have been been figuring him out but according to jsimps his legs left him. that may be a product of trying to boil down from 185 which was apparently gained with the supervision of a nutritionist which begs the question...what the **** were they doing around that weight?
We may or may not find out. I think "Team Pavlik" will be making that decision later this week. Merchant said Pavlik was outboxing Martinez in the middle rounds and even if Martinez was taking rounds off, you don't eat that high a percentage of power shots while taking rounds off. Point is, Pavlik does have some boxing skills. It will take him less rounds to figure out Kirkland than it did Martinez.
Looking past Martinez to Bute? This was supposed to be a setup fight. One one hand they did say he came in with more 'pop' than ever. Like I said in my props thread, if Kelly is only going down to regain the titles to vacate, I'd rather he not do that and leave the lineal title in tact.
Pavlik produces ko's using accumulation of punches. Kirkland has the speed advantage and for sure beat Pavlik to the punch if they got into it toe to toe. Pavlik looked nothing like the piston like double jab destroyer even before the Martinez fight. Kirkland is a raw fighter, but as in the Julio fight proved he has a great chin like Kelly. Kirkland's youth, speed, and power would be too much even over more experienced Kelly. Kirkland would start strong, hurting Pavlik pretty bad for the first 4-5 rounds with Kelly's slow jab being ineffective, then Kelly would gut it out and take advantage of Kirkland's inexperience and fatigue for the next 3 rounds or so. Kirkland then gets his second wind like he did with Julio somewhere in the 9th bloodying Pavliks face. It would go back and forth the rest of the way and like Berto Kirkland just overwhelms Pavlik in the last round with Pavlik in danger of being stopped, but they go to the scorecards. Sorry, I'm a former Pavlik fan myself, but the man doesn't listen to some of his fans pleas to leave Loew he's gonna get stuck in that gear and not get anywhere. I choose Kirkland to kick his ass. Any top 5 jr. middle can beat Pavlik at this point. He's too one dimensional and too slow and doesn't have that pop anymore.
You act as if Pavlik was somehow starting to dominate Martinez or something? Serg was clearly slowing down mid way, then at the start of the 9th he finds new life, and goes back to letting his hands go. At that point Kelly is lost, and few seconds later he's cut up. Bottom line... whenever Martinez opens up, his handspeed leaves Kelly hopeless. You Pavlik groupies can hope for some intervention in Kelly, but the bottom line is he'll always be a slow, and robotic fighter who is made for a guy like Martinez.
What a **** of a post. Some of ya'll are talking up Kirkland as if he's a prime Tyson. He's not as fast as Martinez, and his power isnt devestating. And you can HARDLY compare the power of ****in Joel Julio to that of Pavlik. No jnr middle outside of Williams, Martinez, and MAYBE Dzinziruk would beat Pavlik. Are you saying you'd pick Cintron, and Angulo over him?
