Pavlik vs Martinez, April 17th

I'll just suggest we look at a few punch stats. I'm aware that compu-box type numbers can be misleading, and you certainly cannot use them to judge a fight. However, they can be very telling if you use them as a basis for comparison. Here's my main point.

Paul Williams rarely lands more than 24% in a given round. His offensive is so sloppy that Margarito stood flat footed right in front of him, and slipped his jab repeatedly. Against Martinez PW racked up a 33% connect rate. That tells me that Martinez is not hard to hit, not at all. If ya ain't hard to hit, and you're fighting Kelly Pavlik . . . . . well . . . . do the math.

 

Very interesting match-up. Odd that the loser is getting a shot at pavlik.
The only concern i have with sergio is that he seemed to fade a little late
against a guy who doesn't hit like kelly, and he traded in close too much.
Bad idea for martinez. He needs to fight kelly for strictly a points win and he will be the new middle weight champion of the world. Kelly is almost as busy as pwill but not as mobile, but doesn't lay his head on the side like paul does either which will make him harder to hit clean. KP rolls and picks shots off better than obviously most of the limited knowledged fans on here can see, so martinez won't have a willimng target. I can def see SM
making kelly hunt for him early to no avail, but SM will try to engage sooner or later but will find kelly very hard to hurt. KP is a big, strong middleweight with good foundation and he hits very hard and is busy. Also, like jetski said, pav's best punch is his right and that's krypto for a leftie. I wouldn't be surprised by a serg pts win, but he has to fight a smart and disciplined fight and keep pav off balance or he will be hurt and stopped.

Pavlik wil be ready. it will be a clsoe fight for 6-7 rounds and then I see Pavliks power being the decisive factor. Pavlik in a victory which co uld be a KO if he lands clean late

I agree. I think he has it in him and we will see vs Martinez if that is really true

 

I hope that Martinez will win, he is so great for the sport, and sadly he was robbed against Cintron,didn't get the decision against PW,altough he derved it as much as PW,I just hope he will get what he deserves.

 

If this goes down, I think Pavlik will do better than Cintron did against Martinez.

Bad match up for Kelly Jet. I honestly don't know how he will handle Martinez. PWill I think he would beat, Martinez showed a sturdy enough chin too so I don't like this fight for Pav.
