Pavlik vs Martinez

Personally I think Pavlik 8/13 looks decent... Pavs a very accurate puncher and throws plenty with obviously the power - Martinez is a blown up light middle ... hes a decent fighter but i think hes gonna do well to dodge them bombs for 12 rounds....

 

It's worth a punt it really is.

Many posters over at the GF take the positvies of his display against Williams and some who blatantly favor Pavlik take the negatives.

I think with a full training camp and Pavlik yet to be in a hard competitive fight since BHOP has a great chance. It's a interesting match up and i'm looking forward to it.

 

Any argument for Martinez is valid. But can he outbox and stay on the back foot for the distance against Pavlik. I know KP is robotic but he will close Martinez down at some point. He takes little steps sometimes without the opponent noticing. Martinez' stamina didnt show up too well in the Williams fight imo.

I honestly believe this could be a classic middleweight fight. Martinez aint the type to just box all night he'll mix it up at some point and I think that will be his downfall. I don't think his power is enough to really really stop Pavlik in his tracks. I think Pavlik might win this late on. 10th rnd stoppage but as I said any Martinez argument is valid. A close, close fight.

Finally, Pavlik needs to make some sort of statement in this fight imo. I think he'll be fired up for this one. A lot of people, rightly, of late have disgregarded him. He'll know that a lot of people fancy Martinez for this one. If Pavlik continues to want the mega fights at 160 and 168 this will be his chance to shine.

I reckon the betting come fight night may almost be too close to call.

 

I think you are quite literally right. I think Martinez will aim to spend the night circling and bamboozling Pavlik with output as well as a vast array of angles and punches. Martinez needs to keep busy and I'm sure he can do it. That said, will Martinez be able handle Kelly's power, though?:think I think this is a brilliant fight and it's a shame people haven't been talking about it much.

Controversial decision win for Pavlik, IMO. As for the 'odds'/ guessing at probabilities, I'd say speak to the multi-millionaires in the betting thread:good.

Will have to sign up with them, most bookies have it at less than 5/1.

I think Pavlik will win the fight, people are overly preoccupied with what I call the 'Hopkins theory'. Like literally anybody that can box is apparently going to beat Pavlik now. Somewhere between Pavlik beating Taylor, his poor mandatories, the Hopkins loss, the inactivity and Williams-gate we've lost sight of Pavlik's many strengths. He still punches damn hard, he does the basics well, he's very strong, very tough.

Sure Martinez can move for 5 rounds but what about when Pavlik catches up? What about when his defence turns to **** and his hands are down? And he will, Williams caught up with him and hurt him. Is he going to be strong enough? Does he punch hard enough to have Kelly in two minds?

 

After my £46 return yesterday in the National I doubled it today thanks to McCoy again. So now £97.75 is in the pot. My confidence is soaring and I can get 6/1 on Pavlik to win in rnds 10 to 12. I like that. Almost £700 smackers would be lurrrrrvly jubbbbbly.

Would almost pay for my flight to Oz next year :happy

Martinez stopping Pavlik is more like money down the drain. The bet is surely Martinez points and Pavlik/Pavlik stoppage to cover yourself. Martinez don't even punch hard..I don't see it. Pavlik catches more punches than people think, he at least half blocks many punches but he's stiff so his head bounces around. Taylor hit him with 15 punches when he was clowning and he still didn't put him out.

Booth/Hunter stoppage was a beauty. I still regret not putting at least 200 on that, such a certainty.
