Pavlik vs Paul Williams?...I didn't see that **** coming!

was it official? too big of a step up for paul:-(

 

The weight must be bothering him or he must really just want that money. its a risky move no doubt.

 

According to Goosen, Williams has wanted to fight Pavlik for awhile. They made the offer, and when Joe Calzaghe wouldn't fight it became difficult to find an opponent. Winky priced himself out. Mora has a mandatory. Abraham has a mandatory and some commitments to German TV. Sturm has a mandatory. HBO had no interest in Rubio. Duddy is moving down to 154 and is already in talks with another opponent. HBO liked the Williams fight, so it looks like that's what we get, but it is not signed yet.

 

Well, I posted that fight as a real possibility long ago, but nobody believed me, still, I will not hold my breath. Pavlik by knockout.

 

Afraid it's not a joke. It looks like a deal, but it's not signed. I think Williams will end up at 160 with or without a Pavlik fight, but damn, a stop at 154, and then maybe a Zuniga type guy would be a much smarter way to move up! By the way, the source is max boxing.

 

Williams easy has the size to go to 160 but bit of a stupid first fight there don't you think :nut

 

When this first came up I thought it was just Williams and company making noise. I'm beginning to think that Pavlik ought to consider reaching out to some other promoters. I'm not certain Top Rank is the best place for him.

 

They are only doing this because they know something we don't. Paul must look pretty good at 160lbs for them to consider this move.

 

Williams will be like Mayo when he went to 160 and fought Tito and got his wrost beating of his life and was never the same fighter he once was.:!:

 

I like the match up because we'll see a lot of action but it's really a lose-lose situation for Pavlik. Even if he dominates Williams he won't get much credit because Williams comes from 147 and if he loses, it will seriously hurt his career.

 

agreed, he's moving up 2 divisions and fighting the best there is there is imo not a wise move. Its almost like a guaranteed loss

 

That is a very real possiblity. Do you think that Williams is falling into that same old "Pavlik is slow" -- "He just plods forward" -- "He has no defense" -- "He attacks in straight lines" kind of TRAP!!

 

It's not the same. Mayorga started at 140 and had never fought at 160 before. Williams is really a middleweight that can make 147.

 

On a similar note Pavlik is really a LHW that somehow manages to boil down to 160.
