I only gave Pirog the 2nd, and that is the only round that wasn't close. Like I said elsewhere, the over all fight looked like Jacobs was winning the boxing match, but Pirog was winning the fight.
I saw Pirog winning the 1st round although i would like to watch the fight again sometime, at the time of the stoppage i had it 2-2. Jacobs only seemed to win the 3rd and 4th because of his superior workrate coupled with his fast hands. I doubt Pirog would have the workrate down the stretch to beat Pavlik presuming he isnt weight drained.
I think what you are saying here goes to show how tight the rounds were. I have no real argument against a 2-2 score, but I thought it was the 4th that might have gone Pirog's way. In any event, he's a talented fighter, but I don't think putting him in with a top guy right off the bat is good management.
Jacobs never looked comfortable. You can tell when a guy is moving to avoid and when he is moving to be strategic. Jacobs looked like he wanted a much bigger ring.
Kelly starches him in under 6. I can't believe people think this guy has a shot. A win against Danny Jacobs does nothing in my book.
It would be one thing if Jacob's looked good. Aside from a few flashes and nice combinations, it was clear that it was only a matter of time before he got KO'd.
You're right, the Jacobs win isn't any kind of crowning achievment, other than the paper it came with. But, Pirog is clearly talented enough to be competitive with anyone at 160. Not saying he cleans house or beats everyone. Combine that with real questions about the direction of Pavlik's career and this could be solid fight.
Pirog has too much movement and defense for Pavlik. I think his movement will be enough to avoid 1-2s for 12 rounds. Pavlik might be sneaky and throw in his special weapons like doubling the jab but i have a feeling Pirog can use his movement against that too. Lets face it Pavlik is nothing but a B level fighter with heavy hands. He will never beat the elite.
i expect pavlik to win this. infact if he dont win, i would say it is more to do with weight issues than pirog's skill. however if pirog was to beat pavlik, and martinez was to beat williams, it would set up a pretty decent MW war
