He would have a puncher's chance against Hearns, so he can't be entirely written off there, but even as a middleweight Tommy was simply better than Pavlik in just about every regard.

Peak Hagler should beat him with ease.

I'm with the consensus thinking on this. Pavlik loses both

I wonder what everyones opinion would have been if this question was asked before the hopkins fight?

Nothing would have changed IMO. Pavlik is a good fighter but he's simply outclassed here.

Pavlik was one-dimensional before that fight. Just look at his fights with JT and see how easy he is to hit with a variety of shots. Anyone that can give him angles would pose a problem if he was able to take what Pavlik dished out.

It would be the same outcome. He beat Taylor and got hurt the first time. Taylor beat Hopkins in very very close decisions. We are talking about an older Hopkins. Both Taylor and Pavlik are above ordinary fighters. To beat Hagler and Hearns you have to have more. Someone can bring up Barkley as above ordinary, but even Barkley would beat both or close decisions going either way. Barkley went on to be a better fighter after the Hearns fight.

I personally think that calzaghe would have and should have beaten pavlik. It

would have been great for his legacy.

What do you guys think would have happened: Calzaghe v Pavlik? another lacy performance??

How would have made his legacy better? This talk came before the Hopkins beat down. Now, if Joe had beat Pavlik afterward, fans would have said he beat up on a lighter guy. You know how that goes. Your damn if you do and your damn if you don't. I don't think anyone thinks that since a 43 year old Hopkins schooled Pavlik. Joe would have done the same thing to Pavlik.

It's easier to judge Hearns and Hagler in retrospect now that their careers are done. If a match up were made after Hearns got ko'd by Iran Barkley, at the same time that Pavlik ko's Taylor, Kellys chances seem better. We have to see how Pavlik recovers from the Hopkins embarresment against somebody like Abraham. Don't forget Hopkins himself came a long way from the guy who lost his first pro fight, and got floored twice and drew with Segundo Mercado.

It done wonders for hopkins credibility as a 43 year old fighter. I mean if calzaghe had taken the Pavlik fight instead of fighting jones (If Pavlik had not fought hopkins and fought Calzaghe instead). Everybody including Pavlik reckoned that calzaghe was avoiding Pavlik. Whether he was or wasent we will never know, but if he had fought Pavlik, he would have been the underdog and would have danced circles around him. He then would have retired with another career defining fight. There would be no questions.

Both Hagler and Hearns should outbox Pavlik. Not that Pavlik's chin is weak, but it's alright IMO, but I don't think he lasts the distance.

Pavlik is bigger than Hagler and a prime Hearns (either 147 or 154) but I don't think that'd be enough. They're just better fighters.

Hagler was a brilliant all-around fighter, and could take a great shot. Pavlik has the proverbial "puncher's chance" against Hearns, but I think Pavlik is too slow, basic, and hittable.

Prime Hearns and Hagler by KO, and don't expect it to become competitive
