Fellas, WTF is team Pavlik trying to pull here? C'mon, Sergio Mora is a former 154 lb. paper champ for Christ Sake.... Kelly Pavlik is a huge 160 pounder who easily can make 165 to 168 pounds and be strong as an Ox..... Sergio Mora is mere fodder.... Mora made his claim to fame by outboxing a sluggish and bored Vernon Forrest.... However, come the rematch, the real Forrest showed up and schooled Mora to death........ "Pavlik-Mora" is a goddamn mismatch in the making.... How the hell was this farce sold to HBO for a June date?? :huh MR.BILL
Its a set up to Pavlik v Abraham in November... on the same night they will show Pavlik destroy a fighter who is better known to the non-hardcore american boxing fan than many other better opponents , and hopefully Arthur Abraham beating that fighters last opponent (who beat him ) ... its all promotional .. Apparently you don't understand how boxing promotion works? And I don't think this is a HBO fight, it most likely will be a Top Rank PPV, that is supposedly going to have a "loaded" undercard , according to that rat Arum. and don't blame Pavlik's camp, thats just being ignorant... they were quoted talking about how they want to "court" Abraham, and that when they first heard about a possible fight with Mora that they weren't keen on the idea at all.... they don't really call the shots on who he fights.
It is a waste of time because Abraham is also fighting a nobody next. What COULD be happening is Pavlik and Abe could be fighting each other next and that could lead to a possible trilogy or something to that affect. Pavlik fighting Mora and Abe fighting whoever does nothing to bolster either man's career and does nothing to help sell a Pavlik-Abe showdown in the future. The best way to sell Pavlik-Abe is to just put 'em in the ring with one another and let 'em beat the hell out of each other for as long as it lasts and then have a rematch. THAT is how you do it!
I've heard this argument tons of times when a Contender gets a good fight. "Oh he's known to the more casual fans!" It was the attitude given to guys like Manfredo Jr and Alphonso Gomez. It's not true. Gomez-Cotto was the 2nd worst rated HBO WCB showcase of all time (right behind Pavlik-Lockett) and Calzaghe-Manfredo Jr is in the top 5. They're not that known. On top of not being that known, they're not that good either. Right all of this is true. Again this is correct. Team avlik was very much opposed to a Mora fight..but what can they do? Arum has pretty much served it up.
I look at this fight like this... If Pavlik comes thru as expected it will get rid of Mora & warm Pavlik up for whoever. But should Sergio's style somehow frustrate & make Kelly look bad it will be all Arums fault.
I wish you were right, but you are not.... and this is also why you are not in charge of a boxing promotion company that is trying to make the most $$ possible.
While I agree that Mora is a joke and that it would be disappointing for Pavlik to fight him, the fact that Mora had a title at 154lbs does not make him "too small" or illegitmate for a Middleweight Champion to fight. That is not a big difference in weight, and the weight class never even used to exist. Again, I emphasize, Mora is not a good fight for Pavlik, I am just saying the weight divisions are not far apart.
Pavlik took a beat-down by Old Man Bhop so he needs to recover. So a couple of soft fights before he fights a top tier guy is reasonable. Boxers are not machines when they are in a tough fight, especially a very bad loss they need time to recover. Anyone with any boxing sense knows Mora is a dog and does not deserve a shot.
Don't understand? WTF?? I've seen this type of promo before many times over... That has nothing to do with the fact that this match sucks....... But, if the fans are willing to buy tix for that crap, so be it.... Fact is, Sergio Mora has zero chance of winning against Kelly Pavlik, and team Mora is merely looking to cash in his chips.... This is the type of crap that turns me off these days... YES! Matches like these have occured before; nothing new there, but I still hate to see blatant mismatches being staged....:bbb:bloodatsch:hat MR.BILL:nono
Kelly Pavlik is NOT a true PPV seller in the states just yet.......... Pavlik still NEEDS a "Name" opponent to sell his stuff to the public outside of Ohio...... Bob Arum is a fool, as our the suckers who have bought into some of his recent PPV crap over the last year, but if they try to go PPV in the states for this "Pavlik-Mora" horse ****, it'll tank in the crapper...... Arty Abraham is NOT much help / aid for sales in the states....... Nobody outside of boxing even knows who Abraham is for Christ Sake....... In my book, yes, just let Pavlik and Abraham fight on regular cable TV..... Cheerio..... MR.BILL
