It's clear that Hopkins really took a lot away from Taylor. Taylor is a fantastic offensive fighter when he wants to be. He showed that tonight, but he is does not do it consistently anymore. He doesn't want to get hurt. Well, fighters get hurt, and he is just screwing himslef by taking too much time off. It is clear that he was quite tired in the end, so he still has stamina problems. He did take some shots tonight and didn't really get hurt until he was exhausted.
best punch of the fight was landed by Pavlik in rd 11 as Taylor admitted and replays showed the right to the body really jolted Jt and up to that point Pavlik was having the advantage in the round. That rd given Taylor diminishes your scoring credibillity. the 1st and the 11 th were clearly Pavliks 2 best rds. fight was close so I agree the busier fighter got the nod
I had the fight 117-111 for Pavlik, it was not ever close, since when should the lose of a round win it? Pavlik clearly won the rounds given to him, no doubt about it.
I'll have to watch the 11th round again....but I usually dont give major credence to one single shot in a round, unless that punch wobbles a fighter, that clearly did'nt happen in round 11. .......in fact, I just rewatched the 11th round, and both fighters scored there best shots to the body in that round, Taylor landing from my viewing landed more of them and besides that landed about 3 clean and telling left hooks to the facial area that were more telling than anything that Pavlik scored with to the facial area. .....with 17 seconds left to go in the round, you're correct, Pavlik landed a hard right hand to Taylor's body that visibly bothered Taylor enough to get into a clinch with Pavlik....but neither fighter scored with a singe shot for the remainder of the 17 seconds to end the round. .....Pavlik did'nt follow that exellent right hand with anything, and that single shot to me does'nt offset the fact that I felt Taylor had the better of the round before that right hand. Round 11 to Taylor!
DUDE ARE YOU SERIOUS. Did you not see the punch stats??? Helloooooooo Pavlik landed more jabs, landed more powershot, and thrw more punches. Thats not opinion thats compubox FACTS! Pavlik came forward the whole fight. Taylors face was a mess. He lost. PERIOD!!! He fought a good fight... no, he fought a great fight. Kelly is just the better man. Pavlik has now outfought Jermaine in fight 1 by ko, and outboxed him in fight 2 by 12 round UNANIMOUS DECISION. There is nothing to dispute.
Newsflash.....Compubox punchstats are not facts! Punchstats are human beings prone to error trying to decide whether blurs of punches are actually landing. In fact, punchstats are often times incorrect, and they were incorrect in this fight. Pavlik did not outland Taylor by almost 100 punches!
Close fight first time i saw Pavlik after reading this board i thought he would be explosive. But what i saw was a plodding slowfooted crude stalker that should stay in middleweight and avoid punchers with a chin.
I had it 116-112 Pavlik I also think Jermain fought great and Kelly appeared to be abit more relaxed, maybe more complacent then were used to seeing him I thought Kelly should've went to the body earlier Jermain at times kept his hands up, but not nearly enough When Jermain got in trouble late he clinched to stay alive(a smart move indeed) Taylor did'nt allow Kelly to develop a solid rhythem as in the last fight Excellent fight by both fighters The undercard was great...all together definitly worth my 50 bucks
Half through the fight I had JT winning and I was pretty sure that would be the outcome. But I feel JT slowed down and at last I had it for KP winning between 115 - 113 to 116-112. I missed the 4th round so what ever way it went it doesnt matter. The 7 rounds I scored for Pavlik was: 1,2,8,9,10,11 and 12. Round 11 being the most clear round for KP. I also think that rnd 1,11 and 12 was more clear for KP than any of the rounds I scored for Taylor.
I had Pavlik winning by 2 points, I felt he won the last two rounds which swung it for him. Obviously the 117-111 score was far too wide. I must say though I was impressed with Taylor & if he could have been a bit busier at times he could have won the fight. I definitely feel that Taylor doesn't have confidence in his own stamina. Taylor showed a good variety in there but Pavlik was busier with that jab. Pavlik also had good success with the left hook at times. That lead left uppercut he occasionally throws from distance though is very amateurish & is something he needs to stop. Taylor showed good distancing in that fight & he really showed his class with some combinations. Pavlik rightly stated after the fight he wanted to return to 160 to defend which I was glad to hear because it would be a shame for him not to. As for Taylor my main concern with him operating at 168 would be his lack of power. I'd like to see him in with Lacy if he comes back down. I think Taylor still has a career but he needs to either improve or have more confidence in his stamina because I can only see him dropping more decisions like last night. He's not Bernard Hopkins, he can't steal rounds & shouldn't be needing to. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the fight & felt it was a good one to watch. They are both good guys for boxing & I hope they manage to land some big fights in their respective decisions this year.
