Off topic, but I was thinking about Pavlik-Graziano last night

That would be quite entertaining while it lasted.

Pavlik has one good win under his belt against possibly suspect opposition. I'm not ready to start comparing him to these boys yet.

I bet I enjoy these Zale videos though.

Give Kelly Some Time And He May Develope, He Certainly Would Make Zale's Kind Of Fight And His

Two good wins, I'd say. In resumes, Zale definitely has a big advantage.

But in any event, it's a thread that will stimulate interesting discussion.

I'd go with Zale over Pavlik

I as well. Zale would probably be able to get the fight on the inside, where his mugging tactics would work to greatest effectiveness.

The Miranda win is middling as far as i am concerned. He won and it made him a serious contender.

If he'd lost he would have had to rebuild or settle for gatekeeper status. Perversely, a good win is a win in a fight you could have afforded to lose due to the status of the opponent.

So if Pavlik had lost to a convincing Taylor he would have been in line for a crack at one of the belts when Taylor moved up to 168, despite the loss.

Well, Zale was one tough dude, but if he came lurching and leaping at Pavlik he'd get absolutely clocked by that heavy right hand. So far, every opponent who tasted that punch had ended up KO'd.

I would say that what's important is the quality of the win itself, rather than whether they could have afforded to lose the fight. Miranda and Taylor were both proven fighters, so both wins are valid.

On the other hand, if Zale could use the leaping left hook coming off of a counterpunch (i.e. slipping the right hand) as he liked to do, Pavlik may well get flattened himself. With Pavlik's rather predictable offense (jab-right, repeat) there is the distinct possibility that Zale could time him and pull it off.

Yeah, I wouldn't dispute it's validity, just its impact on Pavlik's status (as in you have a higher regard for it than I do) - it's the man's second best win & I'm not trying to frame it as meaningless. "Valid" is about right. Miranda is limited, Pavlik looked good against him.
