First I would like to say that I am extremely excited for this fight and although it's between two of my favorite fighters, I still think this is the type of fight boxing needs. A few important facts that are in my mind for this match-up are....(in no order of importance) 1- How will the fact that Williams has never fought a real champion who is as tall or taller than himself effect his performance ? 2- Can williams legitimately hurt Pavlik with one punch? 3- Can williams take the power from those long rights from Pavlik? 4- Can williams focus enough on defense to mimic (to some degree) what Bhop did vs. Pavlik ... ( basically a perfect fight 4 Bhop ) . 5- Who will throw more punches? 6- Can Williams slip Pavliks Jab? I can go on , but I think these are some of the more important factors in the fight. Both guys have great stamina, heart and will to create an instant classic! I am torn on who I think will win, but my gut tells me Pavlik UD or Late TKO stoppage.. but I wouldn't be surprised to see Williams pull the UD or SD. I could be way off, this fight could start out like Hagler vs. Hearns in an all out war... that would be insane, but I doubt the fight would go past 4 rounds if thats the case. What do you think???
I think we should all thank you for making another Pavlik vs Williams thread. There was a shortage and we needed it.
LMAO, to be fair though, this thread is about how the fight will play out, the other ones were just about whether the fight would happen or not.
This fight isn't gonna be anything like Hagler/Hearns, PW isn't going to try and trade with KP, he's not stupid
Thank you. Just so that I'm not an ass who doesn't contribute I will add that all your questions are of Williams and rightfully so. I do not think he can take a MW punch at this point and I hate that we have to found out in the MW championship of the world, fight. WHat happens if Paul gets Kayoed by the first Big right KP lands? I will laugh my ass off at HBO for putting up all this money and spending all this time on a non-competitive fight b/c not even they know if PW can handle the power at 160. I think the right hand from Giovanni Lorenzo would put PW down at this point. he is a very slim man. Antonio Margarito is the Hardest puncher he faced and hurt him...What's KP going feel like.
#7, Will Williams under estimate Pavlik's boxing ability? That gets guys in real trouble. They go in with the illusion they are facing a one-dimensional slugger, and quickly learn otherwise. #8, Are PW's hands really faster than JT's? If not, his work rate is going to be meaningless. #9, Can Pavlik force a war against the quicker and more mobile man? If he can, this **** won't last 5 rounds. #10, Will PWilly finally learn to keep his hands up? A low guard is a fatal mistake against KP. Ya, I think there are many questions. I also think a lot of people are going to have real problems accepting the answers.
Williams by stoppage. I cannot believe anyone will think differently. World class box-puncher vs limited clubfighter.
it wont be anything like haggler hearns... that will be the quickest way for paul williams to lose the fight... he & george peterson are not that dumb
What does Pavlik have that can trouble Williams? If he throws his punches now they may just get there.
I understand your point, but last I heard, Williams won't be the only man in the ring. I haven't seen anything from Paul that indicates he can stop Pavlik from imposing his will, and making it his kind of fight. Quintana pushed Willy around. He'll probably be stronger at 160, but he won't be "deal with Kelly Pavlik" strong. Kelly is the bigger-stronger man, and I think we can expect him to act like the bigger-stronger man.
