Pavlik vs. Winky

I definitely think that for Pavlik to get the recognition of best MW out there, he has to fight Winky and beat him.

 

Abraham brings more credit than Winky at this point.

 

Agreed. But wouldn't you think that Pavlik would need to beat both for Pavlik to get the WIDE recognition by everybody that he is clearly the best MW out there?

 

Who in their right mind considered Taylor "the best"?

There's a difference between being a champion on paper and being PERCEIVED as the best fighter in a division. Pavlik is already champ. But if he wants wide recognition as being the best MW out there, i would like to think that he needs to beat the other top MWs out there. Wouldn't you think? :good

 

If this becomes a reality it will be great for both guys, I do respect Pavlik he is ready to fight everyone they put in from of him. Winky better be ready.

GL: Winky Wright expressed great interest to me earlier today in fighting Kelly Pavlik, and he said he would be ready to fight Pavlik in June, all they have to do is make the fight. He feels that a fight with him is the biggest fight that can be made at 160, and he doesn't see any reason why it shouldn't happen.

BA: Winky Wright should have made that statement a year ago when we tried to get him to give Kelly Pavlik a fight, which he wouldn't take. So, Mr. Winky's got to wait in line.

GL: You don't think that a fight with Wright and Pavlik is the most significant fight to make right now?

BA: No. People want to see action fights, Winky Wright is a marvelous boxer, but he doesn't give you action fights. I want action fights.

GL: I don't think you'll find anyone who thinks Winky Wright goes less rounds than Duddy against Pavlik.

BA: I think Winky Wright would be very hard to knock out, but that doesn't mean it's an exciting entertaining fight like the Taylor fight was.

 

This fight needs to be made.

 

No, i don't take the **** out of you. You just happen to be a big fan of a fighter that I feel is GOOD, but not GREAT and P4P level like so many people think and therefore get in the crossfire of heated debates on the subject.

The sad part is that Pavlik right now is tied by his fights with Jermain Taylor and I get into it with the very few, but sickening Taylor apologist fanboys that are left around and it leads back to competition discussions on how Pavlik is not on the level of real SMW's, that will send Taylor home on a stretcher hopefully.

And this is all true, Pavlik's effectiveness is going to be at MW only because of his size and ring intelligence.

Aside from that, Winky is not what people think he is. Winky is a come forward, technical pressure fighter that uses the african style high guard defence and mastered it, he also has a great jab and great timing, making him a very difficult fighter to fight at 154 for any 154 in history. But at 160, with 160 guys being bigger, he's lost his strength advantage and effectiveness because he has very little power and big MW's like Pavlik and Abraham will starch him easily.

Winky never had great footwork, but he's as flat footed as they come now and is simply not effective anymore despite being skilled. He still has good stamina and durability, but he's so beyond overrated by people due to him being ducked for years when he was a real threat and then of course beating a few overmatched big names wide.

Pavlik will handle him easily, but I'd rather see him fight a young titlist with a big punch and inner fire than an aging former P4P who's lost his key elements.

 

He wouldn't fight several fighters in the past where good offers were made.

Now onto his potential opponent Pavlik, I firmly believe that Pavlik will fight anybody at MW, anybody his team throws in front of him. Winky, not at all, he'll be looking for his last big payday.

 

I wouldnt mind watching KP vs WW, but I would choose Abraham or even Sturm over him.

Id like to see Winky get a win or two over a top ten guy before being put in another title fight.

I would not even want the fight to happen, because Sturm is absolutely nothing in the picture of the MW division. Just some overrated money-maker in Germany with decent skill.

Any decent MW starches him. Wright, even at this point, would beat him wide.

Pavlik shouldn't even waste his time. Sturm, having been hyped up in the past and then crushed by Castillejo of all people is why some American fans coin the term 'overrated euro-bum', and while he's not a bum at all of course, overrated is certainly a fitting term.

I don't even want to hear his name, he'd even lose by KO to Jermain Taylor, you know how hard it is for me to admit THAT?atsch
