Pavlik vs ??? Let me put it this, as a Pavlik supporter it is very frustrating that I have to worry about Kelly looking bad because so-and-so lasted more than 5 rounds!!! I say Mora or Rubio in the fall, Abraham in Januray '09, and then move up and fight Andadre or Zuniga spring of 09, and then go after whoever the top dog is at that time; probably Kessler.
Sounds like a good and realistic plan. One thing though - someone said that Hopkins should come back to MW to fight Pavlik. Well, personally I would not pay to see that. Hopkins is one of the worlds most boring and negative - people (can't call him a fighter, because his main plan is not to fight but to spoil). He would make it such a stinker of a fight and even if Pavlik wins (which he probably will) it will mark Kelly negatively and any none-hardcore fan that bought the ppv will go 'wow, i'm never gonna waste money on this dude (Kelly) again. They won't appreciate that it was Hopkins who made it such a stinker.
Pavlik/Calzaghe made the most sense. I was a borderline Calzaghe fan until he came up with this Jones ****. Think about it. A win over Kessler, Hopkins, and Pavlik would have sent him into retirement with a great legacy of last fights. All relevant fighters ranked highly in people's estimation. If he beats Jones Jr. everyone will just say he beat a shot p4p just as they say Jones beat a shot Tito. Pavlik, after beating Taylor twice would have had his stock shot up very high for being the first to defeat the Welchman. Wasn't this supposed to be the year in which the best fight the best?
Yes Pavlkik/Calzaghe made the most sense of any fight out there. Without getting into any of Joe's BS, consider this. Pavlik was going to meet Joe at 168, and then move back down to 160 for Abraham. Imagine if Kelly beat Taylor at 166, Calzaghe at 168, and Abraham at 160 all within a one year span! WOW!!!
Here's more seems my man Rubio is still in the running:smoke http://www.vindy.com/news/2008/jun/27/pavlik8217s-next-opponent-still-a-mystery/
Kelly Pavlik will not fight King Arthur...if he knows what's good for him. boxing is a strange sport. everyone forgets that Pavlik almost got knocked out by jermain Taylor. he beats Gary Pocket-Pool Lockett and everyone considers Pavlik to be a world-beater. He takes too many punches to stand a chance against Abraham. If he fights Abraham, he will lose.
