If Williams/Wright happens Paul will have another fight at 160 and so Pavlik would be more likely to fight him because he's more credible at the weight and I think he will beat Winky. I want to see Williams Pavlik then the winner fight Abraham. The MW division would get a real boost with Wright and Williams added to the mix because there is not a lot out there beyond Pavlik/AA at the moment.
Too bad AA can't get Sturm to fight him in the meantime then we could have complete unification later in the year. It should be exciting. One thing about Pavlik vs Williams or AA is both guys will give him angles. They arn't just going to back-up like most of his opponents. I think he should work on cutting off the ring and add a little upper body movement. I don't think he ever had to bother doing those things in all his wins so I can see why B-hop did what he did to him with ease. I think he could get better.
So they got 2009 mapped out all ready. Sound like a dynamic plan & if he can pull it off, your right...he's right back on top of the boxing world. :!:
i dont work for hbo or anything but i'd be willing to bet they would rather make williams & pavlik over pavlik & abraham
There is a long history between Pavlik and Wright. Pav called Winky out several times when he was on his way up. Winky wouldn't give him the time of day, let alone a fight. After Pavlik/Taylor I, Winky basically demanded a title shot, and claimed Kelly was ducking him. Arum told Winky to go fight Sturm, and come back with something KP wanted. Winky took no action, but continued to accuse Kelly of ducking him. Before Top Rank made the Hopkins fight, they offered Wright $2.4 million and a slice of the PPV revenue. Winky turned it down. Last summer when HBO turned down a Rubio fight, that started the mad scramble for a fall opponent. Goosen claimed that KP was on Paul's short list of dream fights. Arum made Goosen an offer. Goosen said we need a bit more. Arum went to HBO, got the money, and met Goosen's demands. Goosen turned it down. After the BHop fight, PW talked a bunch of **** about how he would have done exactly what Hopkins did, but he would have knocked Pavlik out. I imagine that Kelly would like to get his hands on either of these guys. I know I would. Abraham and Pavlik have both stated rather firmly that they will not leave 160 without trying to unify. Top Rank and Sauerland have already opened negotiations. Arum rightly believes that Pavlik/Abraham deserves to be a HUGE event rather than just another fight that the hardcore fans want to see. The goal has always been to put AA and KP on the same show before they face each other.
