I like Pavlik, I think he is a great fighter and has a ton of heart and power. But lets not get carried away. The only reason he is being put in hypothetical matchups against Hagler right now, and not being compared to Gerry Cooney is because Taylor couldn't finish him. Taylor barely even tried to finish him. The first punch that stunned him was kinda like a 1/2 jab 1/2 hook right on the button, and then a violent barrage put him down. For the rest of the round he was in LaLa Land, even at the end of the round he stumbled into the ropes going back to his corner. The guy was prime for the picking and Taylor dropped the ball!! Pavlik is there to hit, and it doesn't take much to shake him apparantly. I know one guy that has a fight coming up and could very possibly be in contention to fight Pavlik in the future. This guy can punch right through loose defenses.....AND ALWAYS FINISHES!!!

I quite sure the Hagler vs Pavlik thread that was started was a joke.

Surely no one in their right mind would pick Pavlik to beat Hagler. Hagler was a beast. He'd destroy Pavlik.

    He's definitely beatable.

Pavlik is too one dimensional to seriously worry any elite middleweight/SMW, he throws a jab and then the straight right, theres hardly any variation, and I agree, TITO would finish him if he caught him, and he undoubtedly would! As for Hagler, pavlik would be destroyed, could go the same way as hagler v hearns! But I must admit, he is a dangerous fighter, his will/determination and that power he seems to have will keep at the top or thereabouts for a while yet, plus he has a good reach and he uses his jab well, basically he fights to his strengths well, cant argue with that

I dont think Tito would have a chance against Pavlik. Sure he was a great finisher but he would never get Pavlik in trouble. He never knocked out a big strong middle weight. Bhop and winky proved that.

Good point. I think Pavlik would get dropped but would hold on and win by KO.

I don't think he has as bad of a chin as you seem to be think he does. He is beatable but he is also very poised in the ring and fights a smart fight. Tito wouldn't have a chance against him he just isn't naturally strong enough to stand in there with this guy and he's far too past his prime anyways. Kelly is going to be around for a while. He's not a one demensional fighter he just fights in one way because it plays to his strength and his strengths would beat any MW right now. Don't know enough about SMW so I can't make that call. But right now at middle wieght the only guy i wouldn't think twice about picking him over is AA.....who I might favour over him.

Im so disenchanted with people on here who claim to know boxing....
    1. Pavlik hasnt earned the right to be compared to Hagler, hes 25 and has much more to prove, but certainly has the potential.
    2. There are big names out there and if Pavlik beats them then i think he should be in the discussion but again thats real premature at this point.
    3. You Tito lovers gotta seriously pack it up, this guys years were in the 90s man, its 2007! Get over it, the man got dominated 3x, by DLH, Hopkins, and Wright, theres is no way he would last 3 rounds with Pavlik fighting flat-flated as only Trinidad knows how to fight.
    4. Pavlik took some of Mirandas and Taylors hardest shots flush, do you really think 35yr old Trinidad is gonna hurt Pavlik? Get a life guys.

What about Pavlik-Trinidad at supermiddleweight. I thought of this fight after the Pavlik victory. Trinidad definately has more power than Taylor and can definately finish. The problems Trinidad has had in the past when it comes to losing is that a solid boxer can beat him. i dont see pavlik as a solid boxer. he has good fundamental skills but he is no hopkins or wright. Its tough to say since i havent seen tito fight in a long time but depending the outcome of tito-rjj i would say tito and pavlik would be a hell of a fight. imagine those two guys with all their knockout power. it would be a slugfest and probably more entertaining than a taylor rematch.

Im not trying to insult pavlik, there just isnt much variation to his style, I dont have a problem with that, thats just the way it is, and as for beating a current champion, so ****ing what. If Holyfield beats Ibragimov, does that make Holyfield ELITE again?.............Ill answer it for you, NO. I personally never rated Taylor as elite, therefore pavlik beating him fails to make him elite himself, if Taylor had a better boxing brain/ring savvy, and better stamina, he would be up there in that class, but he doesnt.

 Im assuming B-HOP and WINKY arent elite fighters since neither could beat TAYLOR ? I think some of you guys should visit youtube and take a look at some of the fights that your heros looked bad in ! Becasue here on esb it seems that everyone has amnesia when it comes to some of the greats bad fights ! Comparing your heros BEST fights against the current fighters WORST fights is a tad unreasonable !:yep

My point is, you dont have to be a better fighter to beat a better fighter, I dont think Taylor is ELITE, neither is pavlik, Hopkins was, not so sure now, never really made my mind up on WW.
