Are there any names in boxing as big as Pavliks fighting for 50K? I don't think so, People should give Pavlik a break for not fighting Cunningham this Saturday.

JMM fought Chris John in Indonesia for 30k, and lost. Hasn't stopped him from getting great paydays since then.

I think Pavlik is a little bigger name in boxing then JMM. Being a white American boxer has its perks no doubt.

Contrary to media portrayals, being a white American boxer with a knockout punch isn't a guarantee of superstardom and inflated paydays. Maybe 20 years ago, but not today. The proof is in the purses, and Pavlik, while making really good money, never made superstar level money. The most he made was, I believe, over 3 million for the Hopkins fight. None of his other fights came close to that. People are so ingrained with the mindset of Great White Hopes/Hypes, that alot of fans and networks are reluctant to take white American fighters seriously, which means they have to accomplish just as much to get crossover appeal now. People were still calling Pavlik a "Great White Hope" even when he was the lineal champion and the other beltholder was a white guy. Go figure.

The trick to making good money is to have a loyal ethnic/regional fanbase (be it black, mexican, puerto rican, polish, etc) to support you until the networks get on board and stick with you once they do. Pavlik had that, but he didn't have the massive mainstream appeal people who accused him of being overhyped made it seem like he did.

dude Pavlik isn't a name anymore, he hasn't been significant for over 2 years now. His stock has dropped astronomically, he's been all but written off by the boxing public. He should be appreciative as **** that he's even able to be angled towards an undeserving title shot and an underserving million dollar payday. No one cares about Pavlik anymore yet his delusional ass thinks he's still relevant. He's not worth a million dollar title shot yet he had one handed to him and ran way like a ***** cause Bute would destroyed him.

I want to hear about all these famous boxers fighting for 50k. Your thread was about something else right?

I thought It was a post by Big Reg and I was amazed by the stupidity. But now it's ok. Listen when you accepet certain condition and give your word that you are going to do something it is not very honnest to decide that you are not going to do it in the last moment. He knew the amount of money he is going to take at the moment the fight was signed.
