It first started that he was receiving the best medical care possible in the U.S for the staph infection to he almost died from reactions to medications to he was pulling out of the Williams fight to he is fighting just a week later from the original proposed date of the William's fight.:huh
Hmm... not sure what to think other than Pavlik ducked Williams

Well I think we all can agree that I have proven that my IQ on this sport is far above low...so let me chime in for a second.

Pavlik pulling out was especially disappointing to me because I was going to that fight...and that had a chance to be the best card of the year. Pavlik - Williams, Clottey - Quintana, Ngoudjo - Holt and Arreola's return probably against a can who would get disintergrated. A phenominal card that is now dead...but I will put that aside to comment on Kelly actually not being able to fight and now suddenly fighting just two weeks later.

First, staph, depending on how deep the infection spread and the type of staph it was, has differing times of healing. Its perfectly understandable that it could be healed to an extent...but two weeks on a joint (like a knuckle) does not go from "unable to make a fist" to being "ok". So if he is fighting Espina on the 19th, and the severity was what it was reported as, he is NOT going to be 100%.

This being true, he NEEDS to come out and say so. Williams has said he is disappointed and not sure they will come back to the table again for the fourth time...so any exaggeration of Kelly just being miraculously healed and not an admission that he would not be ready for a fighter of Paul's calibur, will further destroy the chance for this fight ever happening because honestly it would be a lie. He needs to attest to the fact that he is not ready fight Williams and needs to test the hand against a lesser boxer.

That will not only be true...it will be a smart move...and probably will make Paul's team rethink negotiations. If he doesnt handle it this way, Im sorry, he is going to be labeled a ducker...and rightfully so (not that he IS ducking, but that the appearance will be that he IS...and perception is always 100% truth).

As for Williams - Martinez. Martinez is a very good fighter...Ive been a fan for a while (Im very happy this fight came through...he has deserved the big name/big fight for a long time). Very fast, intelligent, moves well, etc...but his defense is based on his relfexes and that can hurt him here. He holds his hands low (sometimes at his waist for extended periods of time) and works his offense through his great up jab from that stance. Its when he is best offensively. That is fine against fighters like Cintron or Bunema, who are good fighters, but have far lesser handspeed than Paul. If he keeps those hands low, he is going to get tagged often...but on the flipside, if he lifts them up, his offense isnt half as potent. Damned if he does...damned if he doesnt.

Williams will win this fight clearly.

And if you think a fighter of Paul's skill and skillset cant last longer than Marco Antonio Rubio...you really need to go watch Williams fight a little more. This fight is going to the cards IMO if it ever happens. I think that is going to depend now on what I mentioned above about how Pavlik's team handles the backlash that is sure to happen.

    :good

u need help man...WHAT THE FU$K IS UR DEF OF DUCKING IF THIS AINT ONE?

ALSO NO FIGHTER REGARDLESS OF WEIGHT DIVISION IS SCARED OF ANOTHER FIGHTER....A FIGHTER MIGHT BE SCARED OF LOSING TO THAT FIGHTER HOWEVER....ANY BOXING FAN THAT CONTINUOUSLY FOLLOWS THE SPORT KNOWS THAT NO FIGHTER IS SCARED OF THE PHYSICAL CONFRONTATION HE WILL BE CONFRONTED WITH (UNLESS U FIGHTIN A YOUNG TYSON)....WHAT WERE SAYING IS THAT ITS OBVIOUS KELLY DOESNT THINK HE CAN BEAT PAUL BECAUSE OF THE RECENT EVENTS THAT HAVE TAKEN PLACE AND HOW THEY TOOK PLACE....

IF KELLY ISN'T SCARED OF PAUL (IN THE SENSE THAT HE KNOWS HE CANT BEAT HIM) THAN WHY IS HE FIGHTING SOMEONE ELSE??:huh

Smart move by team Pavlik. He has been very sick for months with a troublesome staph infection which kept flaring up. He is probably still a little weak and very rusty. So he takes an interim fight against a journeyman to test himself and get rid of the ring rust. Both Kelly and Paul are very young so they fight when Kelly's back to full strength by the middle of next year. No big deal really.

Wow, a totally rational and normal response, a true rarity at ESB.

WHY ISN'T IT RATIONAL TO PRESUME THAT PAVLIK JUST DOESNT WANT TO FIGHT PW YET CUZ HE IS SCARED HE CANT BEAT HIM?

LOOK AT WHAT HAS HAPPENED RECENTLY....EITHER ARGUMENT CAN BE SAID IDIOT AND HAVE THE SAME RATIONALITY...:bart

Whatever the truth may be, this looks awful for Team Pavlik. I am very disappointed.

While I think that anyone who downplays the risk of a staph infection doesn't know anything about them, I agree with those who say his camp handled things in an amateurish way. But I do think the injury is legit and all the on again off again bull**** stems from that. I hope its just a case of his people just want to do what's best for their fighter, even if their handling of the matter has been far less than ideal. So, once he is cleared to train, he lines up a fight.....probably just to stay busy and not lose any more time. I hope it's not a case of delay tactics. PTP is a force and to go into a fight against him in a compromised state is unwise, but, either way, hopefully after this Pavlik will finally fight PTP. If he does, win or lose, this whole episode will become a side note.

I thought he did try to postpone it again and Williams got tired of waiting and basically told him to go **** himself?

That's what they're saying. I don't blame the Williams camp for not waiting. Who could blame them for wanting to avoid additional delays. Who could say that this would be the last.
