im a big fan of all three fighters and this is what i've seen recently: pavlik is pretty good. in fact his UD over taylor in the rematch was better than another KO. shows he doesn't panic when the opponent changes his tactics. he could have gotten flustered but he didn't. his biggest strenght is his mental will and refusal to give up. same as how vitali has a better ko percentage than his brother, yet i believe wladimir has more power. the reason? more desire to kill his opponent when others want to play it safe. kelly's biggest strength. kessler's fight against calzaghe showed me that he has everything, and is the best of the three physically (well maybe not stamina but his strength and power allows him to fight cleanly)... but he simply lacks that extra bit of dog in him that pavlik and calzaghe obviously possess. despite wanting to fight a clean safe fight kessler nearly put calzaghe away in the mid rounds, and he wasn't even taking chances so he's damn good, but again, doesn't have that vicious streak, or desire to go to the next level in a slugfest with someone like calzaghe. calzaghe is the best of all three in a all rounder sense. at this stage of his career he isn't the best physically of the three, nor the best mentally BUT he's darn close. that combined with his experience and style adaptation ability makes him the best of the three. having said all that, joe is getting old. he was sat on his ass by b-hop at 43 years of age. kessler was his last great fight in my opinion. i dont think he will reach that peak again because you simply cannot keep going back to the well time and time again. if he fights kessler again, or pavlik i THINK they will beat him. prime for prime he beats kessler due to styles, but pavlik we dont know until they fight- if they fight that is.
more respected than the guy he is schedule to fight,, and dont say he isnt highly respected b/c he was robbed aganst a current champ in abraham who got beat up and sent to the surgery room and when you have that typpe of power people will respect you b/c they know that one punch can be GOOD NIGHT
One way to look at it. However, here is another way. He possessed the power to hurt Abraham, but his inability to BOX kept him from putting him down and out. No, he isn't "highly respected" in the sense you are trying to make him out to be. More respected than the guy Kessler is fighting? Sure. But more respected than the WBA title? No. As for it being a paper title. Calzaghe is vacating. Someone is going to start picking up titles. Kessler held two of those belts. Is he NOT supposed to try and get titles? He can't fight Calzaghe for them.
I dont think pavlik has a huge single shot to be honest, he uses constant effective pressure , which is fine for beating down on people like miranda etc, joe calzaghe is possibly one ofthe greatest 'boxers' around today, he would literally run rings round pavlik and pepper him with shots. Theres no way on earth i can see pavliks come forward in a straight line pressure getting anywhere near joe. WIDE ud, possible shut out for jc.
Kessler doesn't like to rumble. As soon as he faces pressure Kessler runs. Pavlik is much stronger than Kessler, hits harder and wants to rumble EVERY FIGHT. Joe fights Pavlik and Pavlik beats the **** out of him. Absolutely no doubt about it.
joe will take away pavlik jab and beat him on the outside. if pavlik decides to walk through he is going ripped apart on the way in and spun. JC was made for killing people who walk in straight lines. all that heart will not help you in the 12th round when you have lost the first 11. only problem with JC is he will brawl and that is the time pavlik could win it you saw it in round 12 against kessler he came out and stood toe to toe with thew devisions biggest puncher when he could have just run around the ring and won the fight. also if you really hurt JC he goes all macho man and then this turns into an amazing fight
Pavlik will ko Calzaghe because he's light years ahead of anyone Calzaghe's fought to this point. Calzaghe has never fought anyone with a good jab or good right hand. He certainly hasn't faced anyone with power. Pavlik's resume is also far superior to Calzaghe's. And let's not forget Pavlik has a proven history of ko'd elite fighters with good chins and good recovery powers with excellent adaptive skills who have never been in trouble in their professional careers.
How do we know Kesslers opponent is a scrub? Few people know much about him. Heck, I can't even remember his name.
As grotesquely sarcastic as that post is, there are some people here who'll take what you said completely at face value.atsch
Your avatar is grossing me out. Btw everything you've said is wrong. Pavlik may have a chance because Joe is getting old and appeared MUCH slower in his previous fight against Hopkins, but otherwise Pavlik would be out of his depth.
Your way of comparing Pavlik and Kessler punch power is inaccurate IMO. You use the number of KO's to make your statement but totally disregard the fact that Pavliks rate is most likely higher than Kessler's because Pavlik went for KO's, taking more risks in the process. As far as I remember Pavlik has been pretty close to being KOed himself as a result of this style (Zuniga and Taylor and maybe a few more). Kessler's style is by nature more cautious and I'm sure his KO rate could have been similar to Pavliks had he gone for broke. As for Calzaghe-Pavlik the key for Pavlik to win is to catch Calzaghe like we have seen is possible on several occations (latest was the Hopkins) and then follow up better than anyone else. I believe Pavlik can do it but still hold Calzaghe the favourite by a mile, provided he stays disciplined.
