They won't. Pavlik is the big underdog. If he puts in a very good performance, his stock will rise, just like Kessler's did, I think. ...Anyway...you want to deprive Bute of a fan?:? ...Also, if you leave, you won't see the avatar I'll have prepared for Amsterdam for our 3 month bet on Bute v. Andrade.
Pavlik will KO Calzaghe? I don't think so, but yes, he 'can'. Pavlik does not deal well with pressure. In the Taylor fights, when Taylor would get off combinations, Pavlik would cover up, or try to the best of his ability to dodge the shots.....With no trading or counter-punching. He's a lengthy fighter with long arms who has trouble throwing any sort of hook without it being looping. Calzaghe's pressure, and unorthodox style, coupled with angles will spell huge problems for Pavlik. Pavlik needs to be set, and within his extention to get off anything meaningful (Not to mention, he needs his opponent standing in front of him, without giving any angles or movement. Taylor did this, and let Pavlik dictate the tempo of the fight) - Calzaghe will exploit this all night long. Calzaghe UD or late round stoppage.
The upside of a Calzaghe win just gets bigger and bigger. Pipe wrenched should stay though, I enjoy his posts.
I'm guessing a mixture of accumulation of punches, and Pavlik's inability to trade, or fight on the inside. That's my take anyway. Of course anything is possible.
Is this some kind of joke? "Better" or not, I promise you right now Pavlik will not outjab Joe Calzaghe. Kessler's jab is 3 times as good, and he had no such luck. It wasn't even a contest, Calzaghe completely neutralized him with the southpaw jab Joe will beat him on the inside and outside.
If this thread was titled "Pavlik might KO Calzaghe" it would make more sense. Good as Pavlik is many others (at a higher weight than Pavlik has ever fought at) have tried and failed to beat Calzaghe. I think too much is being read into that knockdown against BHop.
I don't think Pavlik can stop Calzaghe but he can definitely win a decision thanks to his workrate. He's busier than Kessler and he's better at dealing with moving opponents. If Pavlik can beat Calzaghe to the punch then he'll take the D.
STUN 'N GUN! I know at this level of competition, no one wants to give up a point, but they would do well to take a knee. Kelly seems to have a knack for not ALLOWING that to happen sometimes. Hurt'em and then mess'um up.
Calzaghe's flurries wont stop Pavlik. Pavlik has to keep his right hand up to guard against Calzaghe's straight left and he'll be fine. Calzaghe has a tendency to lead with his head and Pavlik will make him pay with his right. If you think Pavlik can't fight on the inside or trade, see the Zuniga fight.
Geez. To hear some talk, you would think that angles, etc.... are not even know by Team Pavlik. I think each fighter probably trains to their strengths and don't change unless it doesn't work for them. Of course that could mean a loss in this game.
