Pavlik will never be able to rebuild his career unless he develops an uppercut.

Last night was the first night I've seen Pavlik fight since he lost to Hopkins a year or two ago.

What he showed me is that he's improved his balance, and despite his lack of handspeed he does have good timing and is a good judge of distance.

What he lacks though, and looks as if he hasn't made any improvement at all is his inside game, especially when he faces an opponent that can throw combinations.

He had Martinez in a position on several occasions where a right uppercut would have posed some serious consequences for Martinez when he attempted to smother Pavlik, but unfortunately for Pavlik, nothing was there.

In addition, his hooks lack snap. He still hasn't made any improvements on his left hook. At this level in the game, he needs to develop more tools to deal with the opposition that is going to confront him.

I'm not sure what his trainer is teaching him, but he needs to teach Pavlik something else aside from doubling his jab.

We all saw in the Hopkins fight that Pavlic can't fight on the inside. You stay close to Pavlic you beat him, he had no inside game, he fights very clean.
